Good on you, Bleak. Happy birthday.

I turned forty last month. It was relatively painless. I didn't do my thirties very well...

The Aussies are in the world cup! It's been a long time. Actually, I think the last time was before you were born! HAHAHAHAH!

England have a lot of work to do to be contenders.

P.S. I won't mention the Ashes.

I love how threads like this make everybody else (myself included) chime in with how old they are!

Well a couple more days and I will be 43. This is the time when life actually gets better. I don't regret getting older at all. The kids are older and can look after themselves (well sort of - lol). A bit more disposible income for guitar/music goodies. Still playing hockey so at least my body is not falling apart yet. Slower yes but I'm still doing all the things I like to do. More than when I was younger as I couldn't afford to do a lot of the things I like to do now.

Just trying to make Bleak feel better about things!
Except for the Ashes....

Big happy B-Day to ya Bleak. Like dB said, its just another B-Day, gettin older is great. The girlies call me sir and smile. I look good with gray hair and beard. I have Peter Pan syndrome and ll my kids friends think I am the greatest/coolest dad on the planet and that I rock. I dont worry about being a bit overwieght exept for the health side of it.

So enjoy it and live it, it only gets better.

And see Jim, I didnt say how old I am.

Hey Bleak. No, it doesn't feel any different.....

As for the cricket, I think the winner was the game itself. This year saw some tremendous cricket being played (hats off to the Pakistan team, that was a thriller). The Second Ashes test is being hailed as the greatest test ever. That shows the level of play by both sides. There was never a clear winner, right up to the end. Incredible bowling by the Baggies.

Yeh, I gotta say it was an amazing series! Great for English cricket too! IT was a big risk scheduling the Ashes at the same time as the premier league starting but it paid off!

happy birthday man. i think i mentioned elsewhere that this age thing comes and goes for me. i remember feeling old at 20, 21, 22, and then not old at 23 and 24. then old at 25, and not old at 26 27 and 28. a little old at 29. by 30 and 31, where i am now, i realize completely that its just numbers that either sound old or dont.

lol

Yea man York been a good captain....we blessed with sooo much talent u know for a country this small.......Latapy didn't have his best game for the last 2 agains bahrain tho...well in the second one he had a better game.....he didn't start the match but came on second half...he is the lil magician u know........but that goal we score to got in...Dwight took the corner and Dennis Lawrence(one of our defenders) head it in........it kinda remind me of the beckham and york combinations...but just opposite......but york isn't playing forward like he used to in the days, the coach put him in mid feild cause of his experience u know and its working great....i guess if we had someone with a foot like beckham the coach woulda put him up front

Australia and T&T in the final :) why not! If two 'sox' teams can win the world series, 2 years running, i reckon there is hope for the rest of of us!

I dont even know what that means :) I just heard on the news that it was a big deal!!!

Some curse was finally lifted for the white sox trading babe ruth many, many years ago.

Ye know, the commentator made a good point on the telly before Scotland V USA friendly last week.

You guys have 300 MILLION peeps (we have 5 mill by the way :-) ...

Anyway, if you had a big drive over there and got the fitba going big time, with that number of people, even if only 5-10% turned out to be good, youd whoop everyones ***!!!!

Whereas us, well we have 5 mill.....see, the maths compute...you could take over the fitba world if ye wereny all mad for the grid iron and baseball....ach well...leaves it to us Scots to show ye a thing or two :-P ! hehehe

I think your very right there coco. If indeed the sport was popularized more over here as an adult sport instead of just for kids we might get something going.

Happy Birthday to da Bleak-man - don't worry, one of these days (Lord willing), you'll wake up and be 50!!! 'Course, by then the belly will be fightin' with the 3rd leg as to who's gonna hang lower....

As for you others, I wanna know why I can't find any cricket or football/soccer on my "free" TV in the US? Why do I have to pay $15.95 satellite per game, or $395 for the season(s)??? They're even starting to do that with the baseball, basketball & NFL football here, now!!! They're turning me into a cooking show watcher! lol

i just found out theres an NFL europe league. why did i never heard of that.

anyone have any theories why people arent more into fitba (soccer) here in the states?

Yeah, quite often NFL teams send up and comers to Europe to play in that league to get better. I believe The Vikes sent Brock Lesner there...I STILL think he shoulda come back, he showed a hell of a lot more strength, heart and passion in the scrimmages I saw than some of the guys that are playing now...

I love soccer, always have, always will, I loved to play it all thru grade and middle school. My high school was too small to support soccer and baseball at the same time of year so I never got to play in high school except in neighborhood games and stuff, which was a bummer, cuz it had always been my best sport, Basketball and soccer were my sports as a school kid...I used to go to Minnesota Kicks games, but the league never took off. I even have a succer ball signed by all the Kicks, it's still in my "box o' memorabilia".

Soccer is a contraction of "AsSOCiation Football" I think.

T&T, USA, Australia, all in the WC. Very cool.
It's about time we had some variety in there.
There's been about twelve nations who consitently get in the final....Nice to see these teams mixing it up.

Right you are TallChap

By 1889, the abbreviation socca' was in use, and the spelling soccer had made its appearance by 1895.
