I'll give ya a quick buxx use scenario. If you are recording to a multi channel audio interface with lets say 4 channels since you have 4 busses. You can set up mics on lets say drums. 1 mic each on the snare and kick, and then 2 over head mics. Send the snare mic to buss 1, the kick mic to buss 2 and the left over head to buss 3 and the right overhead to buss 4. These will act as individual lines out to each of your audio interfaces 4 inputs. You can now set up 4 individual tracks to record each mic. This will give you more control over each drum mic track. It also allows you to be able to listen to the master out without what you are playing back through the main out channels being recorded into the miced tracks.

awsome, i wish i had more than four busses though. but i guess sixteen channels is a little more flexible than my behringer eurotrack ub802!

You can use inserts to take signal out from each individual channel (preamp channel, anyway). So you can have 8 channels just from the inserts, plus the 4 outputs from the busses. Just put your 1/4" TS plug in to the first click, thus giving you signal only from that channel. IIRC, preamp gain is on that signal, but not the fader or EQ.

I had one of those very same mixer. Very nice. Don't press too hard on the signal, as the master seemed very easy to clip.

I would send my mains out to my monitor solution (stereo receiver, and tannoy reveal), and use ctrl room out to go to my headphone solution. I'd use the headphone jack for my own headphone mix.

can u use any 1/4" cable for the one click method on the inserts ?? or does it have to be a specific cable ?? cause i have lots of guitar cables here..

Clanson, check this: www.homerecordingconnecti...hp?ax=l&l=c

Answered a whole lot of my question about audio terms.

Also, you can mix stuff down to busses. Like, if you have a mic on each drum and two overheads (for something like 7 total mics), you could mix those down to two busses for stereo drums. Or you could mix the tom-toms to stereo so they don't take three or more channels. Or, you might record a live take with two backup singers and route all three vocal tracks to one bus for the 'scratch' vocal track. Or, well, it goes on and on.

when u say busses, does it mean subouts ?? cause my ub2222fxpro has 2 subouts, so does it mean i have 2 busses ??

can i do lets say, im using 7 mics... mics 1-3 to direct outs and 4-7 to subout 1 ? mix both direct outs and subouts ?

Sure, fredzs. You can use any mix of inputs that your interface can handle. If you have Aux sends, you could use those also. Send the "important" things to their own track, and do sub-mixes of the other stuff if you run out of input.

basically ur inserts, busses, and AUX sends are all outputs... i just found out that when ur using a mono 1/4" on an insert, u can click it down all the way and it still only sends. unless my returns in them arent working (im very sure they do though).

I also like to use busses for effects.

Particularly reverb, to put every thing in the same acoustic space (especially if is more acoustically oriented material) and mix bus compression.
