Latency Issues

I'm using a Digitech Vx400 to do my recording (USB Audio Interface), and I also have a M-Audio Keystation 49e. I use the keystation in Native Instrument's Kontakt, and Absynth 3. The keyboard works well, but the latency is a little bit much. When im listening to the audio thru my onboard sound the latency is OK, but when the audio is getting piped out of the MIDI, the latency gets worse. Furthermore, there is no way to route the output from Kontakt or Absynth into audition using my Vx400, or my onboard sound.

Is the latency due primarily to the fact that the audio is coming back thru USB, or that USB is a bad idea for MIDI? Also, my Vx400 has all the right inputs/outputs that I need for recording, but the recording from Kontakt into Audition is impossible as far as I know right now. Are there any alternatives?

The latency youa re experiancing has nothing to do with the midi portion going through the USB. IT is strictly the drivers you are using for the audio interface. I am not sure if your audio interface can have the latency buffers adjusted or not but its worth a look. As well hopefully it can run ASIO drivers or at the very least WDM drivers. These will give you the lowest latency possible. IF you can open a contorl panel in windows to edit any of the features of the digitech interface then try looking for the buffers and lower them to at least 256 or 128 if possible. This should give you lower effective latency when playing the software synths live.

Thanks!

I'll give it a shot and let you know what happens.
