Building a home recording booth

Hi all. Got a bit of a problem. I'm currently living in a house which means I can practice and record vocals at my hearts content (not to mention at the top of my voice). Unfortunately I'm moving to a flat and I need to come up with some creative sound proofing solution to avoid getting lynched by the savage neighbours.

I have the beginnings of an idea: construct a wardrobe sized (ie 2x2x1 meters or similar) "booth" and line the insides with some not-too-expensive sound dampening material. The thing is, I reckon I don't need it to be actually sound proof. All I need is to dampen the sound enough so it can't be heard through the walls/floor/ceiling of my flat.

I figure I'll just use MDF (maybe 1/2 inch?) or similar to construct the actual booth, and then use something like those compact foam mattrass pads that you use for camping outside to cover the insides.

What do you guys think? Is this plausible/viable, has anyone tried anything similar? I'd be very grateful for any ideas/comments etc.

It's a sound idea . I'd sugest using 5/8", or 3/4" mdf, and make sure it's caulked well, and also...

... may be what you're looking for foam-wise .

An incorporated angle on one of the walls may help it sound better .

MDF, covered in acoustic fibre glass bats or pink Bats, with cloth over the top, stapled to the mdf using a staple gun to attach the cloth at the back of the mdf is what we did for our movable vocal booth panels... three of those for walls, and another for a roof, soft side on the inside, and then you have a vocal booth :-)

If you use carpet in any form or shape, make sure your not allergic to it :S. I made a vocal booth out of hanging carpet, but it gives me rashes.

Thanks for the help guys! Hue, those are really good links. Wish I could afford SheetBlok, sounds really good, but a tad expensive for me. They've got lots of other stuff too though.
I might try your pink bats, dragonorchid, sounds like a very cost-effective solution.
I'll see what I can figure out, and I'll report back when I got something built.
