PA Question ?

Hi people

I am looking to set up a small PA system for a band I am working with.
Initially I was looking at getting two sub bins (maybe w Bins) and two top bins mid and high in the same enclosure? Does any one have any ideas or comments on this set up so far? Also does any one know of any one who sells W bins?

Cheers

There are a multitude of possibilities... What kind of band, how many pieces, how "loud" are you, do you have a current schedule of the kinds of places you'll be playing, or is this just for the practice room/hall, and either way, how big of an area are you playing in? Is it for vocals only, vocals & keys, or everybodys' use for sound re-inforcement?

I'd never thought of the use of sub bins as a "small" setup...

The PA's I have usually had with various bands has been similar to what you are describing. Often time the hi-packs have been a horn and a 12" speaker for the mids and highs and a 15" or 18" bin for the lows...put a couple hundred watts behind each hi-pack and 400 watts or so behind each bin and you have yourself a decent PA for the average size bar...of course, that not including the necessary monitoring system and such...

Hey WYD. I think this is a ...er.....Commonwealth...type language thing. English - but not American English.
Our friend above is a Kiwi.

Bass reflex speaker enclosures, due to their shape, are similar in apparance to a cart, or bin (think "dumpster"). The word is from the old English "BINNE" for "Cradle."
So it's the shape...Bass reflex speakers are bins, akin to how a speaker cabinet is called a "cabinet."

"bins" are the things that take up too much space in the van when your packin' to go, and are the 1st things left behind (after you toss out the drummer's extra toms and don't tell 'im)...
