Hey Guys

It's been a while since I was online proper though I am getting back to it now!!

Anyway, greetings to ye ALL - good to see new faces and good to see old ones kickin aboot!!!

As the title says, Ive been reworking my old song called "Independence"...I have now done what MANY of you said before i.e. "bring it home" at the end...

So, if anyone fancies having a wee listen, especially to the end and letting me know yer thoughts overall, I'd be MOST grateful.

Here's the link- select HIFI (sorry guys, havent LO-FI'd it yet) ...

(Look for the title "Independence")

Good to hear from again man...

Listening now...sounds great! Love the way you bring it home! It that the new Les Paul screamin' out the hot hot licks? It gives it what it really needs! Great work!

Did you re-record the whole song, or just overdub the new stuff?

good to see ya too coco!

*listening on my 1" 'consumer' monitors ยง=oD

i didn't have to change the volume on them...so overall level sounds good to me. *cranks 'em up anyway* the vocal reverb is a bit 'sharp' or 'edgy' i'd cut the highs on just the reverb (try the "Q" in filters (eq) as an insert after the reverb)....i wasn't really happy with the 'dampening' knob on reverb A. hehe i'm gettin' used to Cubase now, wierd.

i'd throw some ghost notes on the high hats on the 8th notes "ands" use a velosity between 1 and 40, if you sequenced the drums, and it'll really add a sense of 'humanism' to the drums. (although i donno if it'd be worth goooin' all the way back and reexporting again)

*second listen*

i like the fade in with the drums, that was pretty cool...and that 'hiss' after the snare (is that just the snare verb?) is really complementry to the feel of the song. as far as the ending goes, i'd do a fade out from 4:20 to 4:37....on my christmas album that i'm almost finished with (which might sell 250,000 copies to a resteraunt chain, but that's another story!) my boss kept reaming me for not gettin' to the point and ending the song....i had fadeouts that were over a minute and a half long!...hehe it does feel like the song is just truddling along (i just made that word up).

good song though, and the snare verb that's perfectly timed with the song is really what i'm left with in my head....even as "Let It Go" is playing. i'm gonna keep your player gooin'

cheers

wyd

Jim, aye - good to be aroond again. No time I have had of late but more I have now so happy I am!! (too much Yoda speak there huh!!) hehe.

Aye, that was the LP...lovin it man...lovin it. The sound is immense, especially in the band, it just cuts thru like hell which is cool...I just added the extra parts on top of the old song, remixed and viola!!

WYD, again thanks to you too bud. As always, ye have many good points and always with the detail which is very handy my man....very handy.

I'll take a wee listen again and see where I can tweak...I think I will indeed look at the fade out too....cheers bud.

Oh aye, and I hope yer album goes well...if it does and you make millions, chuck yer auld pal fi Scotland a nice new Les Paul Custom eh! heehehhe...

Busts out the ciggy. lighter

*waves from side to side*

Piano sounds niice.

I'm loving that les paul tone coco, I'm glad you've joined the gibbo side.

I would say that vocals sound a bit 'boxy' for my taste. Maybe a bit of a cut in the low mids?

Agree with wyd that the verb' is a bit sharp.

Love the fade in/out!

I'm gonna keep the playlist rolling. Its 1:20 am here coco! If my mum asks, your music was keeping me up.

Excellent coco, the LP is sounding great, nice solo's! Really nice sound on the piano. I think the mix sounds really good, though the bass seems a little weak to my ears. I like the way you brought everything in and faded out works well for the song.

Glad to see you back and doing up some music!

If somebody asks for a light : ) Good conversation starter?

And you can't tell me you haven't pulled out the flame at a gig when the slow songs come on.

I've got mild asthma anyway, and smoking might destroy the benefits of my excercise schedule. haha

My internet connection is too slow. One of my flatmates used up all the bandwidth this month, and now we are going at dialup speed. :-(
The piano DOES sound nice. I actually like the "singing in the tunnel" effect :-)

Makes me want to record more songs with piano in them...
Love the guitar buildup at the end. I'm a romantic at heart and it makes me think of that song by Richard Marx "Hold On to the Nights".
I hope that is not an offensive comparison...
I like it :-)

Ya, I loved my LP but alas it was just to dang heavy. So I had me a Firebird custom made. All custom electronics including the pickups and everything. It was a one piece neck through design. He cut that thing out of one big piece of wood. Man I miss Charlie Orr. :-(

Anyway, it was done hardtailed and he cut the neck so thin I could bend it. Nice wide neck though just thin from front to back. Painted it Firemist burgandy, it was beutiful. He pinstriped the name on the headstock as well we called it the Firebitch, as there was nothing like it around in those days. I loved that guitar, even slept with it under my bed even on the road.

Then some jack *** stole it outa my hotel room and I never say it again.

Nope, bummer.

Nice find though. That one is a bit off on the body shape as it is too rounded on a couple of the corners. Mine was the traditional Firebird shape, all one piece neck through. With 3 custom Humbuckers, bridge pickup slanted and all others straight. The electronics were hard mounted through the body, no mounting plate as on that one. And the headstock on that one is backwards from the traditional Firebird as well. Here is a picture of a real Firebird VIII that mine was modeled after. www.gibson.com/Products/G...Firebird%20VII/ Except for the pickups being open and it being hardtailed as well, no whammy tailpiece. And it was just one volume knob. All the tone adjustments were done via coil tapping switches. The volume knob was located about the middle of where the traditional knobs were, and there was an array of 6 micro switches just below that for turning each pickup on or off, and the coil tap switches. It was also a very metalic burgandy color, although I am sure it got repaint imediatly after it was ripped off.
