Hey guys and girls,

For my next assignment for SAE NZ, I decided to record myself in the SAE classics studio. I'm really tired as its 1:55 am here right now, so sorry if it doesn't really make any sense.

Its called "Third World From the Stars". Some of you older members might remember my the first version of this song that I posted about a year ago...

The song has no vocals, and this is just a first draft. I should have the vocals in by 6 pm tomorrow. If not, I'm screwed : )

Please let me know what you think of the song and the mix. Personally, I hate it : ), but its what I have to work with.

Cheers

Oh, feel free to comment on "let me out" by "the insurgents" as well : ). That track was part of the live DVD thing I did. We did it with 8 tracks. 2 overheads(forgot the snare mic :S), kick, bass D.I., 2 electric guitar mics, and two vocal mics. It was a lot of fun recording!

Rock 'n 'Roll, did you play all the intruments one by one Dave Grohl style? ;-)

I gotta admit, the name "The Insurgents" bugs me right off the bat...

Ya CS, did you do all the instruments yourself? The playing is pretty tastey for sure. As for the recording, lots of midrange in there for sure. The guitar tracks sound good and would benifit from beefing up the bass a good deal. The drums are wild, I like that part. Just a little fine tuning I think and it would be great. Gotta get the vox in though.

Dude, Let Me Out sounds great. You really captured a live room feel for sure. I wouldnt be crapping on about the snare either because it came out sounding stellar here. It actually added to giving the track the sound of all being in one space playing together so I cont think I would change it at all. The bass guitar has some major punch and drives the mix along very well. Even with the screaming mids on the guitars. I think again you have captured a nice live garage sound for sure.

Thanks everyone! Yea, I played all the instruments in this song. I'm having real trouble with the vocals as I have a bad cold at the moment, and they sound horrible : (.

Noize, I did another mix after I got the vocals in with beefed up guitars. It seemed to work a lot better than the trebley harsh tone, cheers.

Thanks for the opinion on Let Me Out as well! The band was really happy with the outcome. I like the bass tone, but can't help thinking the guitars are a tad thin... I'll keep working on it though : )

Cheers
