I was just wondering if there are any other indie rock musicians here... or anyone that works with indie rock musicians for that matter...

depends on your definition of "indie" if by that you mean independent, as it is usually used, then yes we are ALL indie musicians.

If you mean indie as in independant then yeah, that's me. I do everything myself. heh. If you mean indie as in Industrial Music then yes, that's also me. I do the Industrial/Goth sound more than anything else.

Actually I was talking about indie as a genre... stuff like Modest Mouse, Dinosaur Jr, The Strokes, etc...

Not really entirely relevant, but last night I was playing at this club and this guy had a lookout records shirt on. I thought that was interesting because that was Green Day's "indie" label before they signed with Warner Bros. I guess my question is, is there really such a thing as "indie" anymore? I mean, it seems that the Strokes are now major. I am not really into indie music per say just because here in Va. its harder to find it, but it seems as if there is really on "major" labels and small ones. Just an opinion.

I guess my question is "when did indie become a genre of music style?" Indie has alway's been just that, independant musician's and record labels' making and selling record's. Now it seem's as though INDIE is just another selling point. I will give some credit to band's like The Storkes and Modest Mouse, and a few other's that came from the real indie term not the genre name, for stiking to their gun's (so far anyway) and not selling completly out. I have seen The Strokes before and after major label signing, and they are still pretty rough, which is what they were and hopefully will stay.

But I don't like to see the word indie used to describe a genre of music, it's just not right. and darn confusing.

I agree "indie" was never really a genre of music, as much as it was a genre of people...and still is.

Well then what the hell would you call the genre?

I have always lumped them into the "alternative" label, the same place everyone goes that doesn't quite fit the mold of any other group...a genre implies they all have similiar styles and musical characteristics, "alternative" and "indie" are groups that people from all walks of music got thrown into because they didn't fit into any other group, therefore it is hard to call either a true "genre".

Honestly, however, I have never even heard of "Modest Mouse" before these forums mentioned them...

You've never heard of Modest Mouse?! I'd highly recomend getting a CD or 2.
