I felt creative last night... if anyone wants to hear my new song, go to www.angelfire.com/emo/modestmouse0/mp3s.html

It's a little heavier than most things I've written... and I think it's the first time I ever tuned a guitar to drop c... and I've got 9's on my guitar... ok so it's a lot heavier than anything I've written before. Well if you wanna hear it, check it out, tell me what you think.

C? Whoa, you should consider getting one of those 7 string guitars that have the low B string...I know I got a five string bass the first time I needed that lower C, I know it sounded better than tuning down that far and I know my basses neck was happy with me :)

pretty cool stuff...i like the song its god stuff. but im still a fan of digital recording, sorry man. not that its a bad recording, its good and all it's just that there's alot of stuff, really compression mainly, that i think could be added to the recording, on individual tracks as well as after mixdownfor the master. also i was listening on speakers so i couldn't hear whether you did any panning or not, but in a digital environment you can double up guitar tracks in about 3 seconds. so i mean lets say you've got 2 guit tracks, you can double them both up, pan the guitars left and right, then pan their doubles, after eqing them differently and stuff, halfway to the opposite side and drop the volume, and you fill up the whole sound field. that all takes like 10 minutes - in an analog environment that's take forever man. and on a fur track (i know from experience) its damn near impossible, even with bussing tracks and stuff. check out something i recorded mixed and mastered in like not even a day, i think it's pretty decent, and i did it all on my computer (and i like that raw sound too so don't worry, i'm not all into fixing stuff up too much) -> www.mp3.com/pathofsound 'sorry' .
i really think if you gave digital a try you'd be like this is amazing, i was very anti digital and then i tried it and its awesome.

Why buy a 7 string when I can barely play a 6-string in the first place? As far as the digital thing and layering guitar tracks, I like the way it sounds with one track... I dunno why... I just do.

that's a fair point...so you are barely a musician at all then...

Let's see how worked up THAT gets all the drummers out there...hehehe

If five guys are standing around, and four are musicians, who's the fifth...the drummer! Being a drummer mylself I can say that. Anyways, I wanted to ask you dB since you are most familar with SONAR if I remember correctly, when you want to double up a guitar track, how do you do it in SONAR? I have been recording the one track adn then going back and playing the track again to get that "chorus" effect. If you just double a track, like copy it to another sperate track, do you really hear the panned difference? It seems like because it is still the same track that you wouldn't hear that nice chorus effect to panning with two guitars. Or, can you somehow slightly delay it a few miliseconds so they sound enough apart to get that chorus sound? I was thinking it'd be nice to get that chorus effect without re-recording the guitar track. Anwyays, let me know if there is an easier way to accomplish this. Cheers mate.

and what do you call a drummer without a girlfriend...HOMELESS! hahaha

How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb...20, 1 to hold the bulb and 19 to drink untill the room spins! hehehehe

Anyway, no I am not the SONAR expert, that would be Noize, however, I do double up my tracks frequently and YES, it make a huge difference in the sound, what I do to seperate the two is a couple things, one is EQ each track slightly different, the other is a slightly different reverb on each or delay...try those...

You clone the track, and then you can pan each track a bit right and left. Then for taht chorus effect use the time + or - to shift one track ahead or backward. If you are carefull and take your time, you will hear the chorus effect. Or with just a little time shift, you get a nice double. I usually use a little differant EQ, and you can even adjust the pitch ever so slightly to make it soudn tweaky.

or you can just take off the snap to grid option in the lower right corner and phsically move the track. but yeah i read somewhere about changing the pitch (down) by like one cent of the delayed track, and i tried it and it really makes a difference, and it sounds great...

<shameless self promotion, in that dB/html style> right, so back to me...has anyone actually LISTENED to my band? i thought you wanted to critique stuff? is it THAT bad that you dont want to hurt my feelings...huh? is that it?

anyway, sonar is awesome and i love it and try that pitch shift thing it kicks. subtle, but it kicks.

actually, tbone, I will listen to your band in due time, I have listened to a lot of music that visitors have listed here, or at past versions of this website, but if you had my schedule lately, you wouldn't have done much listening either :-)
