Welcome to HRC gdaq !

Some ideas for the room...

... as far as the equipment goes, that is a pretty vast topic . It would help if we knew are you looking to do, recording-wise ?

Mac or PC ? That's a matter of personal prefference... Macs tend to be pricier, but work just as well . ; )

Are ya doin' the Royal Philharmonic, a 5 piece rok-in-roller, or just yourself? How many tracks ya wanna do at a time? etc. like Hue said.

I'm just now reading through acoustic101, what a good resource. I can't believe I haven't read through here before.

Anyway, I'm building too, gdaq, I've got frames up, but will have to wait till my house is finished before I can spend much time on the studio.

I can share info with you if you're inclined, but certainly the best avenue is for you to get more involved and learn up on your possibilities. The link above should cover much of your questions (or at least get close). There's also the john sayers web site

www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php

There's a bunch of builders there, who've done lots of different kinds of studios.

Someone on here just built a studio with good results, dealing with the Sound Isolation Company. I'm dealing with them as well, or at least, I will be.

www.soundisolationcompany.com/

They're statement is that 2x4, normal insulation, with absorbtion foam, sound clips, hat channel, then 5/8 drywall gives STC 60, which seems ambitious, but that's what they claim. Take a look at their site and you can see some of their build designs.

As far as equipment goes, here is a good place to start www.homerecordingconnection.com/faq.php

Hello mate,

I'm new to it all aswell! It's pretty daunting but with a bit of reading and some help from these guys you'll have a much better idea of where to go.

Let us know what type of music you want to do, but I have some tips anyway.

Read as much as you can so that you have a background knowledge. For example finding out the differnece between a dynamic mic and a condenser mic is.

A word of advice. dont rush into anything! I nearly bought an emu 1212 soundcard because my mate said it was great. it is but it doesnt have enough inputs for what i want to do.

They have lots of articles on this site and a few on Sound on Sound but you have to pay for that.

Keep asking questions here. It s a real helpfful crowd.

Flashy.
