Hello,

I would like you to please critique the vocal mixing on this verse...A girl I recorded did a cover to the song Angel....It was recorded over the instrumental so I cant really do much about instrument eqing and that...I ran the mix quickly through the L2 Maximizer so it would be louder for you to hear and i did a bit of eqing to the mixdown and stereo imaging....I noticed that their is alot of bass....way to much im guessing...could someone suggest how to get rid of some of the bass.....I used an audio technica at 3035 and pro tools and digi 002 to record the vocals....

Thank You

Welcome to HRC. As for the bass, are you talking about the backing/kareoke track, or the vocal track istelf. I know the instrumental portion of the track does contain some heavy bottom end, not to much on my system I must say. But the vocals didnt sound to bottom heavy at all.

The AT3035 should have a roll-off switch as well as a pad if needed to help cut the low end of the vocal. But again, I didnt hear anything bad as for to much bottom on the vocal.

As for the mix, the vocal istelf is a bit up front in the mix. I would suggest a bit of reverb to settle it back a bit in the mix. Try to find a reverb patch that will match what is on the instument track as far as the sound of the space.

Also, please be kind and particpate in the community. You will find you will get much more response if you take the time to listen to others mixes, and join in with other threads.

Hey SwurVe -

What type of effects have you placed on the vocal track? To me they sound too heavily processed. Perhaps you put a little too much chorus? I'm not sure what I'm hearing. In my opinion, a song of this nature requires an "honest" vocal track. Just some thoughts.....

Also, tell the girl to keep it up. She certainly has room to grow but shes taking on a big project here. Shes doing good. I'm a big fan of Sarah!
