Hello -

Just finished up a new song and wanted to get some opinions from real musicians/engineers. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Hope you enjoy!

Well it's a really good song, going back the funk days. Sounds a little dry though, maybe some reverb to help everything gel together, but it's a really good effort, thumbs up here!

Drako,

Nice work! Guitars parts are awesome! I agree that it needs a little something to fatten up the funky sound. A little EQ on the individual tracks to get everything to sit a little better in the mix...particularly the guitars.

Not my genre of choice, but it sounds like you really have a great song on your hands!

Thanks so much for the tips. I am somewhat new to recording. Olddog when you say add reverb are you referring to the main output track? Up to this point I have only been adding effects to the individual tracks.

Guitar jim I've been struggling to fatten up the sound. Should I just boost the low end on the guitar parts? It sounds muddy to me when I do that. Thanks again..

Drako, no the guitar parts sound tasty and bright as they are. They just need to be thickened up a bit. By fattening it up a bit they mean tweaking each instruments track alone to get the best sound out of each track as an individual part before you start mxing them al together.

Adding bottom end to the main stereo mix will indeed muddy it up. You will find tweaking each track before mxing will get it going for you.

That means very moderate use of a subtle reverb on maybe the guitar and vox, then beef that bass sound up. next work out the drums, get them fatter sounding.

I am guessing from the sound you are using a drum llop or sequanced drums from a machine or soft synth.

And ya, I like the track very nice tune indeed.

I will give this a better listen tommorrow and maybe give ya a bit more advice. As I am sure others will come along and do as well.

On my suggestion yes it would be on the stereo mix, not to much just a bit. Right now everything sounds too separate <to my ears>. Jim & Noize have also given some good input that should help getting it to all gel together nicely. :)

this is a fun tune...love the changes in the tune...really nice.

reverb would definately help here...a little dry...but the tune itself is solid and so is the recording and the mix. Everything is clear and all the instrumentation works.

Nice track man.

I added a touch a reverb on the main output track and it really brought things together. Thanks all for the input. This site is such a great tool for beginners like me.
