Its not really going to form much of a cord at all after you push down the bar. The string pitch doesnt fall evenly so it will just sound like a guitar thats out of tune.

but ideally speaking, the chords identity will remain the same. in a perfect world.

I think that EVH used to use tailpieces that were designed to keep the strings in tune relative to each other while the tremolo bar was pressed or pulled. I can't remember the name of it though.

but on any average tailpiece, the strings all change tension at different rates due to their different diameters and slightly different initial tension (all 6 strings have about the same tension when tuned to pitch, but not quite).

Its the same idea as turning the low E tuning peg a full turn and turning the high E tuning peg a full turn. That full turn will have a greater effect on the low E than the high E, even though the gear ratios on the tuning pegs are the same.

Eddy started off with the high end Floyd Rose whammy and then made mods to it himself. It wasnt perfect but it was better then most. In the end Floyd ended up incorperating most of what Eddy did into their double locking design used on Ibanez and others.

What Tadpui is talking about is Steinberger's TransTrem tremolo unit.

Eddie uses it a lot. Not only does it keep the strings in tune with each other as it drops or raises the pitch, you can also lock it in place and use it as a makeshift capo.

Some of Eddie's most recognizeable examples of this are "Get up", "Summer nights", "Me wise magic" and "Fire in the hole".
