Ok, So I bought this New compressor, and I want to make sure I have it hooked Up right, so here it Goes:

Currently I have an 8 Channel Mixer, 4 mono channels (the phantom powered channels, and 4 stereo channels.

I have Mics in the 4 Mono Channels, I mute them all so they are controlled by the ALT 3-4 sliders, and then I run out of the ALT 3-4 ports and into the Two inputs on my Compressor, in which i THEN run out of the Outs and into the 5/6 stereo channel, in which I also Mute, So the 4 mics are all being controlled by the 3-4 sliders and are being compressed.

However I am Not sure I hooked the Compressor up yet, It has two channels, each channel has Three Ports, Input, Side Chain and finally, Out put, I used a Y-1/4 Stereo Jack Cable to run from the ALT 3-4 Out puts on the mixer to the Input on channel A and the Input on Channel B, and Then ran a second Y-1/4 from the Out on Channel A and the Out on Channel B to the Left/Right Plugs on the 5/6 Channel on the Mixer.

I also have another 4 channel mixer that I use for my last mic, and that goes stereo out into the Left Right Channel on Channel 7/8 on the Other Mixer.

So basically I Group my Snare (top and bottom mics) and my Kick and send them to the compressor via the MUTE buttons, and then the Over Heads are not muted and are not compressed.

here are Pictures of the <a href="i4.photobucket.com/albums...Mixer</a> and the <a href="i4.photobucket.com/albums...essor</a> So that you can see what I mean.

I hope this isnt TOTALLY confusing.

I am doing this so I can get my Bass and Snare right Up front and have real controll over the Attack and Release. and So I can avoid Peak Issues .

Is this the Right way to connect that?

is this the correct way to set this up?

Seems pretty good, but I would go very easy on the compression while recording using just enough to control the peaks. Then you'll have much more latitude while mixing on the PC to add heavier compression.

Well I guess either way I compress it at two points, wheather I compress more going in or after the fact is a trial and error thing.

The thing is you can't undo the compression (or any effect) you use going in whereas on the PC during your mixing you can. :)
