I'm not sure i understand exactly but i don't think there are any risks in having a firewire device of any sort alwyas plugged in.

My Ipod's in 24/7 !

What was your concern?

Some folks are discovering that their firewire gear is not as "hot-swappable" as they'd like, and have burned up their devices or computers... Leaving a device plugged in is not a bad thing. If it derives its power thru the cable and the device doesn't have a power switch, it would turn on when the computer turns on, but no biggie... Besides, some interface/computer combos apparently, when they lose the connection, re-set themselves to a default setup, and therefore *have* to be left plugged in. So, leave it plugged in, just watch-out for that cable, and don't accidentally pull something off your desk or table that costs hundreds or more...

the only problems with firewire things I've heard of is external hard drives will fail to mount after a while in OSX due to corrupted permissions... however the mass of external harddrives may be what fried our iBook earlier this week.

I am mainly concerned with the fact that the firewire interface is a preamp audio interface. I would never leave a stand alone preamp plugged in all the time. but my main concern is that the firewire interface is also the sound interface taking place of the sound card. I am not able to find out the life expectacy of a firewire audio preamp interface if it is left plugged in all the time.

And, of course, in an effort to save the customer money, the manufacturer left the $1.25 rocker switch out of the design... Plus, just think, you never have to wonder if it's on or it's off!. Maybe an email to the manufacturer, but then, they may wonder why you're concerned ("why, our device is guarenteed never to fail")...
