So i'm going to get either the 1010lt or the 1010. I can't really decide which i'd rather have.
What are your opinions everyone??

Aug 21, 2005 04:44 pm 1010, just because it won't have the RCA jacks.
Aug 21, 2005 07:06 pm what if i get an XLR to RCA snake? Are there other differences that make the 1010 better than the LE?
Aug 21, 2005 08:40 pm RCA jacks are often noisier than others, with or without adapters they are not the best choice for studio gear. It can work just fine for you, but you asked which you'd rather have, it's the 1010. In addition to that, breakout boxes are much handier than a fistfull of cables.
Aug 21, 2005 08:54 pm thanks dB, you're the man.

Aug 22, 2005 08:57 am the break out box offers the balanced cables inputs, but if you're coming from a mixer, it may not have balanced outputs, so it may be moot.
If you're coming from a preamp(s) then they'd likely have balanced outputs, so you would have to get a xlr to 1/4" TRS jack. I'd have to agree with dB here, I'd rather have the 1010 over the lt, but was budget-minded at the time, and the 1010 was a fair chunk more spendy than the LT.
Just to say though, the LT did a very good job for me, connected to a mixer through a 1/4" to RCA snake. The runs were short, and quiet, so the recordings were very good.
ALso, if you're inclined, the $$$ you save could buy you a good LDC =)
Aug 22, 2005 09:01 am Yeah, if budget is an issue, well, having the 1010LT is not a bad choice by any means, having any decent sound card is better than none...

Aug 22, 2005 11:14 am I would go for the 1010 for a few reasons.
Running all the cables back to my PC wasn't practical. I already have enough crap behind my desk. I like having the breakout box closer to the rest of my gear (pre-amp, mixer etc).
I just learnt this now but RCA cables are noisier.
I would have purchased the 1010 but I chose to go with 3 Delta 44 cards instead as I needed 12 inputs.
Aug 22, 2005 11:19 am Isn't the 1010 breakout box rack mountable too? which, if you have a rack already, make it much nicer...

Aug 23, 2005 02:41 am The breakout box is rack mountable so that is cool but it should be noted that the 1010 only has 8 analogue ins as well as 2 digital.
Sep 05, 2005 02:44 pm Yes, I acutally bought the LT and that EXACT cable, same brand and everything, it works great. All you need to do (if using the channel inserts) is push the 1/4 cable in to the first of the 2 clicks, so it only activate the send and doesn't try to get the signal back.
Sep 05, 2005 11:24 pm Another difference is that the 1010 has the converters in the breakout box, which protects them from the environment of the PC. In other words, I think you can expect a slightly better noise floor from the 1010.

Sep 08, 2005 07:27 am first of 2 clicks ?? but theirs only 1 "black round thing" so that is only 1 click ??
Sep 08, 2005 02:51 pm yeah, when you push it in, don't push it in all the way. just wait until the first click. what you have is a TS 1/4" cable, which is mono, same thing I use.
