i watched mtv for a few mins, and was quite impressed with a few videos, the new Gorillaz (sp?) was way cool, them cats have matured alot, and the video is great....also the NIN one...umm i think it was called 'only'...had the desk with him animated into one of those pins and needles things that you can leave impressions on...i that that was an awsome concept...musta taken months to animate it. and i'm really diggin' Black Eyed Peas stuff here lately, i think these guys are a breath of fresh air.

anyway i usually hate mtv and everything that was on it, but last night i saw three videos that i enjoyed, maybe there is hope for the future!

You should see some of the NZ music videos. Some of it is good **** man.

Like "Walkie Talkie Man" by "stereogram"

Theres this cool song by the "d4" that has a video with sock puppets acting as people. The sex scene at the end is hialrious!

"Shihad" have some pretty creative videos

The older "Elemenop" stuff from their album "love and disrespect" is also pretty cool.

We have "c4" and "Juice TV" here. Those are our MTV's

Cheers

Funny that you guys who I'm guessing don't much listen to hip hop like Black Eyed Peas. I can't think of a single person I know who listens to hip hop (and not just the stuff on the radio) that actually likes those guys. I guess they're doing they're crossover thing successfully. But from my perspective, what with the loud clothes and over-simplified songs (from what I've heard), they seem kind of like a modern day minstrel act to me. I'm not saying you shouldn't like them, but that's just my opinion.

Our cable access chanel here in the bay plays indie (and I mean indie!) rock videos sometimes. It's pretty cool even though it's not my favorite music. I still like to watch.

yeah i definately don't consider BEP all that much 'hip hop'...more like dance-hop, i think outcast mastered that pretty well....as for hip-hop, i dig alotta older stuff, anything from A Tribe Called Quest (and all q-tips solo stuff), i always enjoyed Jurassic 5, and for awhile, i was convinced anything Method Man touched was ALWAYS tight..beastie boys (especially pauls botique, and check your head era) cypress hill, run dmc, biggie...eminem was fun for awhile, and i wore out icp for 2 years,....i know there's tons of stuff out there that i've never heard, that i bet i'd love, but as far as newer stuff, i don't know much about what's out there, there's this up and commin' cat Chance down here in Nashville, this guy has got some skills, and definately a unique flavor. the more i listen to jay-z the more i respect him.

bassed on the people i mentioned, what do ya think i'd like? i dont' like the bling, crunk, or (glorified) gangsta-thug....i really like the soundtrack to Office Space!!!!

haha

Hmmm, keep your eyes open for a group called Little Brother. I'm also sure'd you'd like Lyrics Born and probably blackaliscious (everybody likes the Nia album by blackaliscious, broken arrow is also good though). Lyrics born and Blackaliscious are more funk and soul inspired. Little brother is kinda akin to Tribe as they bring that old school samples and solid rhyming skills back. I could go off, but these are a good starting point. You may also like Atmosphere (they have a lot of indie rock crossover appeal, as does Sage Francis).

If you ever get Real player working, you can always try my radio show. I got lots of good super underground stuff playing there.

Yeah, just to mention, I don't really dig the "bling, crunk, or (glorified) gangsta-thug" either.

oh man, you're right there, Coolo. I'm not anywhere on the hip hop map. I think I'm just one of those old(er) hicks that dig a catchy tune once in a while. =)

Maybe I'll look up your show too, always open to new stuff.
