The music and mix are really good until that distorted guitar kicks in. Doesn't seem to fit and sounds quite dry compared to the reverbs on the verse and the 'lush' acoustic guitar.

Pretty good recording all the same. Nice one.

do u suppose it's the tone of the distorted guitar that causes it not to fit?

*listening*

not hearin' anything 'wrong' or out of place yet, nice soundscape and layers...

ooohh yeah them distorted guitars don't seem to fit.....i'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say it was recorded direct. now this isn't wrong or bad, but you hafta treat it a bit differently. your first goal is clarity, if you want them guitars to pound, then less is more, when it comes to "gain" or "drive"....unfortuanately this is something that can't be fixed in the mix, ya can boost all the high mids ya want, but you're not gonna be able to make it more clear and present.

second, you have GOT to have 'texture'...this can be done in many different, and creative ways....try doubble tracking with different settings on your sound, and layer them.

next is depth, not necessarily reverb or delay, but as in volume, when you're layering, put a track nice and low (with some edgy eq) in the mix...get creative and experament....it's not gonna come from pluggin' in and hittin' record and tryin' to make IT (singular) sound BIG later in the mix, or havin'them already sound HUGE.

the vocals and clean guitars sound excellent!!! nice, soft, cozy, and dim. the drums sound great when the clean guitars pick up, but they're a tad dry when there's not much guitar stuff gooin' on (i'd throw more reverb on them and maybe even some delay (just for those special times)...that'll give you more depth.

i think this one has potential to become really good, you're definataly on the right track, record more distortion tracks, fluff 'em up, and have fun with 'em.

good luck

the distorted guitars were recorded using a mic'ed amp. i kinda recorded rather quickly. i also noticed after i recorded that the only distortion was coming from my pedal for i forgot to hit the drive switch on the amp. i also double tracked the distorted guitar and panned hard left with one track and hard right with the other. in all honesty the distorted guitars have been my biggest problem, getting them so "fit" and have the right tone. the song definately needs them to help express the power of the chorus, i just can't seem to get it right.

check for phase issues maybe? zoom in real close on them and make sure they're all going the same way....also switch into mono, and solo one track then add another, listen for the eq shift, while inversing the polarity. it should almost completely suck the sound out and then it should sound full when ya click it again. IF it sounds like the guitar is sounding like it's comming from two different 'tunnels', then you have phase problems.

that falls into 'clarity' aswell

lol i can't believe how far off i was on that!

i'll give that a try. for some reason the whole phase thing is intimedating. maybe you can help me understand something.

when i recorded the distorted guitar, i recorded the first track. once the first track was recorded, i then went and recorded the second track, and played the same exact thing as the first track. with me? i didn't change a thing between either track. i have a basic understanding of phase, what i don't understand is how 2 tracks, recorded exactly the same way can be out of phase. is there something that i obviously don't understand about this whole thing? maybe you could better explain this to me?

BTW this is the amp that i used to record

www.deanmarkley.com/Info/...nuals/D1011.pdf

in your oppinion, based on the style of song that i posted, which amp would be good? i don't exactly want to sit in a music store testing out a bunch of amps that won't even be what i'm looking for. also do you think it would even be worth it to have a better amp.
