I will soon be starting a recording project and will be buying an 8 track for this, any recomendations, key leaders in the field, that type of thing, or are all 8track studios good in different ways?

are you looking at an 8 track tape recorder with mixer integrated (like a porta studio), and 8 track hard disk recorder or just an 8 track tape deck with no mixer?

How much are you planning to spend?

I have a TASCAM 564 four track at the moment but would rather have some more space after bouncing down.

hehehe, the main rule is just be cool :-) There is not ALWAYS somebody here, but your questions usually get fielded pretty quickly.

I guess I would lean toward the Tascan 8 track, Iportastudio, it will be very similar to the one you have so you can start using it quickly and get right to work.

However, what PC are you using to access the 'net? Have you ever considered starting to record on your PC, that is what most of us here do, though most of us have analog experience as well, going digital gives you a lot of great benefits that you can never have in the analog domain without spending many thousands of dollars...

Just a thought, if not, I would recommend just upgrading to the bigger portastudio since you already are familiar with that family of gear.
