they're just a buncha plugs wired to eachother, basically you plug your ins and outs of your outboard gear to the back side, then you have access to them on the front by using short 'patch cables' you can route your signals to any of your gear...very handy

i'd like to hear about nomalizing a patchbay....isn't that were you have say your gear patched up and it dosn't break the signal until you plug something into the front of the patchbay....er something like that ay?

You gots it wyd.

'Normalled', is when there is a direct connection between the Input at the back of the patchbay, and the output at the back of the patchbay. This connection is broken when a patch lead is inserted into either the Insert point OR the Return.

'Half Normalled' is exactly the same, but the connection ONLY BREAKS WHEN A PATCH CABLE IS INSERTED INTO THE RETURN (bottom row on the front).

This lets you make duplicates of the first signal to send to a H/P amp etc. without affecting the recording.

'Parrellel' means no direct connection at all. All patching.

schweet!! i was hoping that's what it was! thanks!

diller

a patch bay has connectors on the front and back side that allow you to access your outboard gear all from one spot, picture an old telephone opportator swiching cables back and fourth to connect/direct phone signals way back when...

normaled means what it sounds like....say all your gear is hooked up to the back side of the patch bay, it will work like 'normal' then say you want to throw your best compressor in the signal path, all ya gotta do is take a very short cable and connect the two from the patch bay.

ya got me?

cheers!
