Jun 27, 2005 02:36 pm J-A-N-G-L-E on those acoustics, mi amigo! Nice sound there.
The vocal harmonies say Rubber Soul-era Beatles (as does the guitar solo to a certain extent), yet the melody and rhythm are more Buffalo Springfield in nature. That's a wonderful juxtaposition.
I really like it...very relaxed, almost resigned in nature. I like the metronome-style drums, too...they fit perfectly.
No real suggestions for improvement on this one!

I think that describes this perfectly.
More later, perhaps

Jun 27, 2005 03:29 pm Thanks thermo. Glad you liked it. There's a ton of influences in there on this one, but I agree Rubber Soul era is probaby the biggest, never thought of Buffalo Springfiel, but that works me. :)

Jun 27, 2005 03:49 pm DEFO Rubber Soul man...which is one of my most fave albums by my all time fav band ye know that anyway.
I liked the modulation between verse/chorus/ with the minors and the melody, sounds sweet to me.
Would that be the Takamine?? Sweet sounding acoustics - exquisite playin again. Much as perfect an accoustic mix you could hope for man..sounds REAL good.
Solo is harrisonesque sounding...as ye always seem to nail. The tone sounded like Octopus's Garden which is another cool Beatles song.
Dan my man, ye seem to mix up the best of the fab 4 which to me, kicks ***. NICE piece of music, good lyrics and well performed and recorded.
Ah, man, one of these ye'll slip up and I'll give some critique :-p !! JOKIN I am man...another top effort!!! Good man and keep em comin bud.
Coco.
Jun 27, 2005 03:55 pm Ditto what everybody has said here! Awesome job, Dan. Very accessible. Maybe an obscure comparison, but I hear a lot of a Mike Nesmith-penned Monkees type of sound. Coming from me...that's the highest of compliments!
Guitar solo is PROFESSIONAL. I thought George was dead?!?!?!
You've certainly been busy...can't wait to hear what you have up your sleeve next!

Jun 27, 2005 07:59 pm Hey Coco, thanks much glad you liked it. It's certainly not a rockin' number, but I've got one of those coming up soon too! :) Thats my Takamine, which btw, I'm about to buy another this time a 6 string. The ole' 12 string is giving up the ghost I think. It's got a distortion like sound that you can hear even when not mic'd and I can't for the life me find where it's coming from.

Jun 27, 2005 08:02 pm Jim, you know now that you mention it I too could easily hear Nesmith coming up with something like this. Thanks for the kudo's on the solo, I'm no George on slide, but maybe one day I'll be close. He's probably my biggest influence even more than Lennon/McCartney, so I appreciate the kind words! :)
Next up is 180bpm rocker! <G>
Dan
Jun 27, 2005 08:18 pm 180BPM Dan?? hey hey! Can ye hit the drums on that one too! hehe.
Nice work as I say...always. This IS a cool song, dont need to be rockers always bud...I likes this mellow, acoustic vibe muchly.
Sweet man.

Jun 27, 2005 11:33 pm Very nice guitar tones. This sounds clean and everything sits well. The song over all is smooth, a real nice listen. Your slide work is very much like Harrison. Nice job!

LOL Actually cause it's in 2/4 2/2 type rythm I can. All I have to do is boom crack, boom crack, boom... LOL. It's actually 95bpm, but done in double time. The song is about the speed of "Hot for Teacher" or "Smokin" (Boston)

wow, this sounds like it's radio ready! ummmm i'm a bit hard pressed for suggestions, lol for a second i forgot i was supposed to be critiquing...damn, harmonies are perfectly mixed...you do anything special to them like notch eq or anything like that?
AH-HA! sounds like ya muffed a chord at 3:04, that's it, scrap the project, re-track! lol j/k
solo sounds real good too
ok my only qualm was it needs about two seconds of silence in the intro and one second in the outtro...other than that, this thing sounds ready to sell!
cheers

Jun 29, 2005 03:59 pm Thanks WYD! Nothing special on the harmonies, just a little cut at 1k w/.75 Q and slight boost around 2.5k with a fairly wide Q around .4 I think it was. This particular song I didn't much to any of it.
Good ear on muffed chord, there's actually some more at the end so I'm in fact doing a retake on the Acoustics. Every time I'd start humming along while doing the guitars I kept going to an A7 chord instead of A6. LOL
Thanks for listening!

Jun 29, 2005 11:05 pm I don't know why it would do that Goby. There are no popups with my page on SC since it's a VIP page.
Maybe try just using
www.soundclick.com/startingover
Thanks for trying. :)

Jun 30, 2005 03:14 pm nice job dan, i'm a big fan of the beatles work as well, I'm particularily impressed with your architecture of the slide solo. I like where and how you noodle around on it. Very fluid and expressive.
I'm also keen on the chord progressions.
. . . and the harmonies,
. . . and the guitar tone,
=)

Jul 02, 2005 10:46 am I really enjoyed this song...I agree with everything thats already been said...
Most definately a huge George Harrison feel on the solos...so understated yet entirely beautiful and perfect....
Your voice totally reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot...one of my favorites...this is going in my Soundclick station immediatly.
Very nice effort...
