guitar modeling

I have a small home studio with a 16 track (VF160), keyboards (Yamaha SO8) and guitars (Strat and Martin). I've been looking into some very inexpensive effects. The music I record doesn't call for much. I've been reading the reviews on the little Digitech models (RP50 and RP100) and people either love them or hate them- alot of people saying they break. The musicians friend samples sound ok for what I need. Any good input would be appreciated. mwaynew

Well, I can't really provide feedback on the Digitech models, I can say, for the same price as the RP100 you can get a Line 6 GuitarPort, which I just got a chance to use and it's a great modeler, awesome sounds, presets that are really nice, a bunch of effects and other things.

Alternately there is alos a software modeler called the GreenMachine that is quite nice.

I have an RP100 (my son's actually) and it's a nice unit for the price, the Guitar Port looks pretty cool as well, though I've never heard one other than the samples on the website.

My lil brother just bought a Line 6 PodXT Live to hook his ESP KH-3 into. I'll see what he has to say about it...I know its on the spendier side, but I figured I would pipe up since we were talking modeling...

It looks like your Foxtex recorder already has on-board effects. I don't think that any budget effects box is going to outdo the effects that are already on there, are they?

Plus, don't forget about the option of sending your recorded tracks to a computer, where you can add free VST effects to your tracks. There's a ton of free VST plugins out there, as well as free multitracking programs that you can use as a VST host.

Oh my!!!

This XTPro by Line 6 is STELLAR! My little brother (20) is a guitar playing freak...and is self taught. So he bought this thing to have more effects and since he knows I am more fluent in "studio gear" he had me figure it out and show him the basics...

So I plugged in his KH-3 (which is a mighty spendy ax for his talent) and whaled on the thing...It was pretty fun...TONS of options and modification tools in my mind. Definately a good purchase if you can scrum up $400...

Have you played with it thru the Line 6 Edit software interface? Or using the face controls?

yeah man, my best friend has a pod pro, and the software editor is way cool, you can tap into certian things that you can't get too on the face.

No I have not...

Would this be connecting the board thru the USB connection??

If so then we might have an issue at home when it comes to location...all the more a reason to rearrange...LOL

I will look into it...I am assuming on Line 6's website...

yep, it speaks to the computer thru USB and it is on Line 6's web site. Also get Line 6 Monkey to help keep the unit up to date regarding firmware and presets and stuff.

Line 6 edit is very nice. I just downloaded the version for the XT Live a couple of weeks ago and added the heavy metal plug-in while I was at it. I was a firm non-believe when it came to modeling until I gave Line 6 an honest try, now I love the stuff!

Try to stay away from the Behringer V-amp. However if you are not going for clean quality then you may not notice.

The sampling rate is not CD quality on the V-amps so everything recorded usually comes out sounding dirty. which may or not be a good thing.

however for price you cant beat it.

Well I will have to say...The Line 6 kicks ***!! Puts the V-Amp to shame.

Deebs I got the software editor running and that is a pretty cool application...it makes modeling the sound alot easier than bending over with my elderly 25 year old body and changing the stuff manually.

SIDE NOTE: Deebs, Noize...how did you two fair in that storm last night...pretty nasty. The blunt of it went maybe 10-15 miles south of me.

SIDE NOTE 2: Beer?

We had a tornado coming right at us, got to the basement and it pissed out before it got to us...other than that brush it was pretty mellow. From the radar it looks like Noize got some good hail tho, haven't talked to him since...

Glad things missed ya...but for me it was a close brush with disaster, resulting in no real damage of any sort...

Before the storms last night I went to JiuJitsu class...a cop from Shakopee trains there, I got to see the black eye I gave him in Kickboxing :-)

He has a good arm bar though...got me pretty good.

Wowzers...

Dont get me wrong things got hairy where I was at with the strightline winds. I was sitting on my enclosed porch enjoying it all before a straightline wind blew a sheet of rain all over me thru the screened windows. Then I thought, ok I am going inside. Not as hairy as a tornado but it was fun.

Thats funny about the cop. He probably makes up a good arrest story for the black eye.

Typically me and a couple neighbors stand outside, or, if it's bad, in one of our garages, drink beer and watch bad weather. I find it very interesting to watch. However, once the word "tornado" came up, well, then it's all about geting the kids downstairs...then my inlaws that have no basement came over to hang out in our basement for a while...
