ok since last time i posted, we fired our guitarist (youngest member, still underage and the only alchoholic in the band). however that means we lost our recorder. we bought a boss br-8, and eurorack mixer. we also got a hold of about 7 sm57s and a drum miking kit. now i usually master and mix in cakewalk, however the br-8 doesn't have usb out, and i don't have a zip drive. could i theoritically use the rca outputs to go to a stand alone cd recorder and record each cd track as an individual track from the mixer? how good would this sound?

also, if im running mics from the drums to the mixer then to the recorder, which outputs from the mixer would work best with wich inputs on the recorder for the cleanest, easiest to work with sound?

it'll work, but you won't have control over the individual tracks...

which part will work?

i'm assuming your talking about the cd recorder. Let me clarify my situation. since i mix and master in cakewalk, i want to get each individual track into the computer seperately. as far as i can tell my only options are:
a. record eack track as a seperate file to cd.
b. use the line outputs to record direct into my soundcard, however i have a factory soundcard, and am not sure of the quality.
c. break down and buy a zip drive for my computer, however i don't know if you can transport individual track files with a br-8 encoded disk. i would like to have everything recorded, then transport.

are there any other options?

which of these would give the best quality and be the easiest to mix?

also with the drum question, if i record in stereo, i figure i can get a better sound into the recorder and eq for some sonic seperation once its in the computer. But which mixer outputs should i use into which mixer inputs?

I am mostly worried about sound quality. as i see it i don't want to waste my time if i can't get a decent sound for a demo.

all your help is appreciated.

quality wise...your best option is to burn .wav files to cd rom and import them into sonar...

Zip, zip, zip. Boss had a cool free program for my BR-532 where it read the SMartmedia card and put the individual WAV files into the PC via a reader.

check your manual for 'track export' or 'data export'....it should say something about that.

try soloing the track you want to export (or mute all the others if you don't have a solo feature), then export as normal.
