I want to loop my Delta44 output through the mixer so I can hear what was previously recorded AND what is currently being recorded... without recording the previous recording again (looping). can this be done? If so, how?

Yeah, sure, if you don't use the "mains" as your recording hook-up. If you do 4 tracks at once recording, while monitoring, you might run out of hookup options. But if you're doing 3 mics and one line-in: Use your MG 1 & 2 XLR inputs, take short patch cables and partially insert into the "Insert I/O" jacks on the MG and run those to your 1 & 2 Delta inserts. Using a mic on the MG #3 XLR (or the "Line"/"Mono" jacks), use your MG Aux Send with a patch cable to the Delta #3 in. Then the line-in (say a bass guitar DI or whatever) would go directly to the Delta #4 in. Take your Delta Outs to your MG 7/8 & 9/10 inputs and use your MG mains as the monitor, adjusting the sliders on the MG for your monitor mix. You're not actually monitoring what gets recorded, tho.

I "think" (once again, a scary thought) that works. Just remember, if it don't, experimentation is the mother of all invention!

plug each input signal into the mixer (say channel 1 through 4)

connect 1/4" (mono will work fine) cable into the channel insert jack, but only first click.

plug the other end of this cable into the corresponding input jacks on the breakout box, 1 through 4

plug two 1/4" mono cables from the breakout box outputs, plugging into channel 9/10 for stereo input.

attach your monitoring solution to the main outs, also you can listen to the headphone jack on the mixer, or the control room out on the mixer.

This lets you listen to the first four channels through the mixer, because you're not breaking the signal by clicking in the plugs all the way into the channel insert. Also, you're hearing the played back stereo signal, coming from channel 9/10.

Works like a charm. You can now change the levels of what you hear in the monitoring solution, independantly of the levels that the computer hears. Sometimes this is good, and gives you great flexibilty.

The only problem with this is that the MG 10/2 only has inserts on channels 1 and 2. If you want to use more than 2 mics, then I don't think that you have a choice but to route them through the main bus.

OK... I have this all figured out now...

L and R from V-amp to chann 1 and 2 on the mixer... Chann 1 and 2 I/o from mixer to Delta44 in.

Delta44 out to 9 and 10 in on mixer.

Moniter VIA headphone from the mixer.

Thanks guys.

no worries.. I am only using 2 inputs for what I am doing right now.. Left channel and Right channel from the V-amp. I am only recording guitar clips at the moment.

You guys are geniouses. I didn't think that I could monitor and record from my mixer at the same time. I just did what you suggested and it works perfectly. Luckily I don't record with more than 2 inputs very often.

Ain't talkin' 'bout me! (but, thanks) My knowledge comes from the old days, way back when (omg, like, 30 years!!!), if you had a mixer, your band was *professional*. Our 1st mixer was a 7 channel Tapco (?), with a Monitor send, an Aux send and a mains out. That became the drums sub-mixer (using the Aux for left, Monitor for right to get a stereo feed) when we acquired a PV 16 channel "stereo" mixer with 2 (wow!) Monitor sends and 2 (again, wow!) Aux sends, in addition to sub outs & main outs (double-like, wow!). AND A 100' SNAKE! Folks were impressed, let me tell ya. But, somehow or another, we *ALWAYS* filled the shtinkin' things up! Besides that, we always had a couple-three tape decks hanging off of them for recording ourselves (not much ever turned out usable in public, tho). We had a blast, and George Martin would have been impressed with our patch-rigs. For a bit anyway.

Nowadays, I've got a new EMU 1820m, and I'm lost more often than not, trying to figure this software routing stuff out. I'd never had the luxury of multiple sends/returns/monitors like this in such a small box before. And you have to open a "window" to see what you've done (or haven't). Can't just scan across a couple of boards and machines anymore!!! Folks talk about using 2 monitors; I need a whole *wall* of 'em! To think, I thought things got complicated with a patch bay! Not only that, I miss seeing the reels on the deck go round & round, round & round... I'd better get back to mixing...
