I know this has been covered on the tips section but they only explain mic'ing techniques. I want to record my drums using 4 mic's into my UB802 and then onto cool edit pro. should i leave everything central or pan cymbals to the left or right? im a bit confused about how drums are recorded in a multitrack environment

For four channels, you'll probably want 1 dynamic on the snare, 1 dynamic on the kick, and 2 condensors as left and right overheads. Then pan one condensor hard left, 1 hard right, and keep the snare and kick straight up the middle.

Ok but just because you have the inputs doesnt mean that you have the mic pres. Have you recorded on this before??? Im pretty sure you need a mic pre for each channel (which in your case would be 4).

Yeah, looking at the manual for the UB802, it only has 2 mic preamps and the rest of the inputs are line level, meaning that you'll need to find preamps in order to use them.

Also you only have 2 outputs so you'd have to mix your 4 inputs into stereo before sending them to your recorder. It's ideal to be able to send each drum mic to its own track in your recording software instead of having to mix it down to stereo, but stereo will work...you just won't be able to adjust the individual mic levels after you get it recorded.

It just doesn't look to me like the UB802 is the right mixer for that particular job.

i have only used it for recording my self on guitar (2 mics) never on drums. Im gonna find if some-one will let me borrow a bigger mixer!
