I am now in a position to give you a chance to listen and heavily criticise this demo song. I know its a long way from finished but I need your expert advice on what I could do next to improve the quality (I know the saying crap in crap out but I have to start somewhere)

All comments welcome godd and especially bad

wow, cool. i love the guitar work and the musicianship. good tune, very me.

what was the process behind the behind the recording? the elements (trhe guitar, the drums, etc etc) could use some mixing so they stand out better, but that take some experience

thanx flame for the response

the recording consists of 11 trax
6 drum
1 bass
2 gtr
1 vox
1 back vox

all recorded on the VS1680 then sent to pc for work. CEP 2 then to waevlab with various plugins. So I can in theory eq and mix quite extensively.

What would your recomendations be with regard the mixing.

well, its a rock song so if the drum track's good then bring it right up in the mix. take the guitars down a tad and bring the vocals up. have the bass nice and clear but make sure its not clashing with the drums and drowning out the kick, especially.

thats a very basic take on it, but if you wanna post some mp3s of the seperate tracks ill give it a shot for ya, or someone else will...

i'm assuming you're talkin' about "shagging 2"....

wow that's some sick guitar sounds!!!! nice hard E power there! very motorhead/misfits sounding to me....seems the drums and guitars are fighting for space....try cutting the drums around the center frequencies of the guitars....i love that squeel you're dooin' wiht the guitar!!!

yeha this mix is a bit clearer now. that guitar thing kills me...how are you dooin' that? the drums sound a bit "natural" to me, which i think suits the genra but i like to hear the drums in your face...

The guitar is an epiphone SG through peavy amp mic'd with an AT cond mic through to the roland with a guitarist who loves NOISE.

The reason you like drums in your face is becasue you playthem like me LOL but we have to be reasonable to the other musicians LOL

As this is my first time recording and mixing what areas would you say I should concentrate on (in your most prestigious opinoin o mastering one) hope thats enough crawling

lol you may stand up now

umm the weakest part of the mix IMHO is the drums... they're not very clear...get some high end boost on the overheads...errr wait how exactly did you do the drums first? then i'll elaborate.

ok bring up the highs on the overhead, and cut the lows some....on the snare, get rid of everything below 100hz, and bring up the upper mids....same with the HH.

Very inventive man, I really like the edge it has to it. It has a definite Iggy Pop "Raw Power" vibe to it.

The vocals are really struggling to stand out...maybe they're competing with the guitars too much? I'd try to notch out a spot for the vocals so that they'll poke through the mix a bit better.

The snare definitely is muffled, and bringing up those upper mids ala WYD's advice should help.

Very energetic song, it sounds like it was a blast to record.

YOU ROCK!!!

i love that kind of raw rock! boost the kick, take out a little of the lows on the snare, and add some noise reduction tools and its a masterpeice man!

ITS AWESOME!!!

Thanks to all for you contributions so far, I'm glad people are enjoying the style, it's certainly not the type of responses I was expecting, you have all given a nebie a big big boost . Due to work load I haven't been able to progress it further but hopefully today i will spend some time on it and try to get better results.
