hey everyone, yet again another post about my (hopefully none too distant) upgrade!

i am currently speccing up pc's, and pretty much all my research is showing that it is recommended to have a second hard drive, dedicated to audio. i've looked into hard drive specs and i know what i would be wanting to buy if i got 2 hard drives in my pc, but my question is...

is it difficult to configure a cubase se based system to store audio on the second hard drive? i've never given a thought to where my projects save their audio (as it normally just goes in one of the many project folders on my desktop).

would you have to create the project folder on your second hard drive? is this just a matter of selecting the drive from the "browse" menu when creating a project folder?

also, when it comes to having a finished project and you want to maybe save the project folder to a cd and wipe it off the hard drive... is this hard? i just cant get my head round having a second hard drive.... i wouldnt know how to access it. is it just a case of clicking through to it in My Computer?

thanks for any help - as always, greatly appreciated!

Naw man, its easy as pie.

I done the same thing in Cubase in January (SX but its the same principle).

All ye do is: Format the new hard drive if not formatted when you get it. When you go to save your files just select the new drive as if it were any other folder on yer PC.

Just as you say, its as easy as going to my computer. I named mine DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) so I know what it is...canny be easier.

Good luck and go for it. I got me an 80GB HD (Seagate) with 8MB buffer for aboot £60...nice.

£60, wow! thanks for the advice, and putting my mind at rest!

i'll go ahead and spec up a system now - which a friend is building for me. i'll be posting the spec on here for opinions!

Nae worries...depending on what ye are building and exact needs, ye can put together a real good system for under £500.

I souped up one I had due to lack of funds with a Delta44 card, more RAM and a 2nd hard drive...now its sweet and good solid PC for up to around 18 or 19 tracks with many VST effects loaded.

Not bad for a Packard Bell with a Celeron 2.2!!!

Its all aboot optimising it, cut the crap oot and I dont use mine for anything else now (I even isolated my wee studio into the loft so NOBODY touches anything - sweet!).

BTW - after checking your profile, I am thinking the PC you have should do the job quite well no??

Seems like a nice rig to me, with some good gear for sure. That said, ye canny whack new toys!

what my profile doesnt say is that the pc was made by tiny, is also used by my mum, and makes as much noise as a large tractor. time to get myself a dedicated pc!
