Routing?

I just bought an Audix Fusion 6pc. mic kit off of ebay that comes with an extra LDC (a superlux ECOH6A). I'm assuming the mic wont sound too good due to the fact that I bought all 7 mics for $275. My question is; should I use the LDC as a room mic (my room doesn't sound the best), another overhead (I'm already close miking each cymbal/drum, anywhere else, or simply not use it for drums? Oh also, I want to get a good stereo mix of my set, but I only have 3 inputs, so should I get the stereo mix on two chanels, and then isolate bassdrum or snare drum?

i'd use it as a room mic, it certianly can't hurt....a cool trick is to put it in the closet or even in a different room....have someone play while you walk around and use your ears to find a good spot to put it (hint plug one ear)....the closet trick works great, cuz it rolls off the highs naturally....

Thanks WYD, I have a nice walk in closet right near where my kits set up. Now I just gotta wait till thursday for the mics to come...Anyone else have any thoughts about routing (look in first post)?

I'd run your stereo submix into 1 & 2 and then use 3 for kick. I was thinking either kick or snare but you'll probably get that snare through the overheads as well as the others. Although it's nice to EQ the snare later and add reverb, it's also nice to have control of that kick so you can slam it. Hope that helps. Peace!

just as an option here...

Lately, I've been on a more traditional trip treating the kit as one instrument... try using a stereo micing technique and using a room mic. you can over compress that room mic making it pump and breathe and mix it just under the other mics in the mix... sounds cool, but definitely a niche sound.

Yeah this drummer I'm playing with now likes to do that. He's more of a jazz drummer and likes the natural kit in the room sound. I guess it's what sound you're going for, and if you're consistent enough with your kick foot w/out having to compress it.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try that for a song on a demo CD for my band. I just wanted some ideas because i just bought some new mics, and I've only had 4 (2 overhead, snare and kick) mics goin so far. Im just a little skeptical about using the two over heads alone, due to the fact that they are fairly cheap SDCs. Also, like I said my room doesn't sound the best, and close-miking each drum should get rid of some of the room sound (or so Im told).
