Is there a good resource and or book/s available on the subject of microphone modding? I bought a neuiman clone from a local studio that was a cheap mic modded to sound like one. I am innterested in the techniques and understanding the principles involved to do suc a thing. Might try my hand at it some time.

The first couple are pretty good. As a general rule, in a condensor mic, the transformer is usually the guilty culprit for cheap sound. There are other mods as well. Have a look at these and see if it gives ya any help.
