Audiophile only recording on the left...

I just got this soundcard, and it will only record on the hard left or hard right depending on how I plug the RCA cables into the 1/4 in adapter. I'm recording from an ART tube pre-amp which doesnt have any RCA connectors, so perhaps it wont work with the adapter?

sounds like you're 1/4" isn't balanced....make sure there's two black rings on it.

i've got two black rings on it... still have the same problem. Could the actual RCA cable be the problem?

It may be the adapter you're using... I had a couple cables that wouldn't plug in properly, simply out of bad design .

Have you tried using a (x2)1/4" to (x2)RCA cable, instead of the adapter ? Hosa makes some pretty nice yet inexpensive ones, which work great with my Audiophile .

I got to thinking about this...Can you set your recording program to record only from the L or R input of your Audiophile? You don't really have a need to send a signal into both sides of your RCA cable...1 side or the other will do, as long as you have the option to pick 1 or the other as your recording source.

The only reason you'd need both L and R is if you're recording a stereo source, and that ART only puts out a mono signal.

well this is really odd... I got it to work by doing the following:

Plug in a 1/4 in. to RCA(x2) female adaptor to the preamp, then plug in a single RCA to RCA cable to the white female. THEN that goes into a female RCA to male RCA(x2) adaptor which goes into the card.

I look your advice, tadpui, and looked high and low for a way to do that, but it simply isn't there. Thanks a bunch for the input though.

What software are you using?

Having that many adaptors will probably introduce some substantial noise into the signal. Maybe we can find a way to do it a bit more cleanly.

I'm using Cakewalk

I was also able to reduce the cables to two just by purchasing longer versions and better combinations. It reduced the noise by a TON. Now i'm off to buy a line suppressor to plug the preamp and guitar amp into.
