record using 2 sound cards

Hello everyone. I am running Cool Edit Pro 2.1 with a Delta 44 soundcard. I also have a Gadget Labs interface and so I thought I would like to use it along with the Delta so I can record 12 things at one time. I installed the Gadget Labs card and drivers, no problem. The problem comes in when I try to use the Gadget Labs interface. If I hook a mic directly to it and open CEP I say "test one two three" and the computer shuts down. If I do not use the Gadget Labs interface and just use the Delta everything is fine. Now my question: Is there any way I can use both in this computer? BTW the computer is a P4 3.0 Gz with 1024 RAM and Win98. thanks Winston

I asked a question similar to this a while ago, the peeps were saying that you could possibly run one card with ASIO drivers and one with WME drivers

ASIO, by standards, can only run one card at a time. However, manufacturers, such as M-Audio hacked the standard to allow multiple interfaces if using THEIR cards. Your best bet is running both in WDM, or one in ASIO and one in WDM (tho I wouldn't recommend that)

I have to agree with dB here. The M-Audio cards, and ESI as well have their drivers written to get around the ASIO limit of other cards. But cards such as the Gadget labs cards that were intended as entry level cards do not tend to play well with other audio interface cards.

You can however try doing as dB mentioned and run the Delta in ASIO and the Gadget in WDM and see what happens.

The thing to remember is all audio cards run on their own internal timing clock. Each clock being just a tiny bit differant from the other. This means timing will not match, especially with the lower end Gadget card. A possible work around, and I dont know if the Gadget card is capable of this is to have the Delta set as audio timing master, and the Gadget card set to slave. In other words setting the timing up for the cards you would tick the Delta as Internal and the Gadget as External. This will hopefully allow the Gadget labs card to lock to the timing clock of the Delta. Otherwise you will have one heck of a timing mess.
