does anyone know if gate plugins look ahead? out of fear that they don't, i gate my toms by hand, but i got to thinkin', gate plugs should be able to look ahead, much like their compressor counterparts...
just a thought

Mar 15, 2005 04:09 pm I am pretty certain that most do. I use the gates on the channel strips in Cubase and they work great...you just have to get your attack, threshold & release set optimally.
How exactly do you gate by hand? That sounds like a lot of work.
Mar 15, 2005 04:42 pm i split the clips anytime they're not beein' used and fade in/out each tom "fill" clip & not isolating every hit, because there's alotta bleed between adjascent toms. it just sounds more 'natural'...it is a bit of busy work, but i don't mind. i know analog gates just don't sound good gooin' to tape, so i just carried over that philosophy to digital (go figure)hehe
anyway, i'll give it a listen.
