Mar 14, 2005 05:46 am this is pretty common with older software. If your software is older than your CD-R drive, and your CD-R drives using unique drivers, the software is sometimes unaware of the drive's existence, because it was not even made when the software was made. Nero's website may have driver updates or application updates that could solve the problem. Alternatively, upgrading to Nero 6 would as well.
Mar 14, 2005 06:13 am iv installed the drivers .. nothins changed.

Mar 14, 2005 06:30 am I would presume they no longer support version 5 (as is common when a new version is released) and you may have to upgrade to 6.
I would contact Nero support, or, just upgrade to. I have v6 Ultra, and it is a great app.
Mar 14, 2005 07:27 am found something out, my dvd_RW is disabled, and iv gone to enable and it cant enable the hardware.
iv tried updating the drivers but its not found any and i havent got a cd with anything on.
in the hardware menu it has dvd rom.. enambled, dvd_RW disable with a big red cross on the icon of it!!
does anyone know how to enable the drive!!??

Mar 14, 2005 07:41 am so basicly its the dvd_RW thats the prob.. not the software.. im sure it was enabled before.
"this device is dissabled (code - 22)"
if that helps..

Mar 14, 2005 08:09 am Don't know if this will help, but I have a similar problem using my CD burner. The only way I can get Nero to recognize the drive is if I put a blank CD in, and then restart the computer. Works every time.
Mar 14, 2005 08:21 am nope.. no use.
any 1 elsse know how to enable the dvd_rw drive??.. it just wont let me . "windows is unable to enable the drive"

Is there not a box somewhere that says, "enable this drive for cd recording"? in the properties of the drive, right click the drive, under recording. I had to select my drive when I had two recorders installed.
Mar 14, 2005 08:34 am i only have 1 recorder.
the drive isnt even there on the "my computer window" to even right click on.
the only thing i can get to is the driver manager which says that this drive is unable to be enabled.
i just need to enable the drive!! do you think that uninstalling the driver might help, then installing new hardware?? i dont have any drivers or anything on cd for the DVD/CD_RW.

Mar 14, 2005 08:56 am if you get that error of being disabled it typically means windows is unable to find, or load, the drivers for the DVD. Generally you shouldn't need drivers under Windows XP, which, since this is a new PC for you, I assume you have XP.
Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers could help, running windows update and possibly updating drivers for your chipset might help...

Mar 14, 2005 02:40 pm does your burner show up in Device Manager? If so, then right-click on it under "DVD/CD-ROM drives" and at the bottom of the page under the General tab, make sure that the selection in the drop-down box says "Use this device(enable)".
If it's not in Device Manager, then you'll have to go into your BIOS setup and make sure that it's enabled there (chipsets vary the procedure for getting into your BIOS setup, so try pressing F2, F8 or Delete repeatedly after the POST beep to get in while rebooting).
IF it's enabled in the BIOS, then I don't know what to tell you. My neice's external burner wouldn't be recognized until we reinstalled the drivers, just like mentioned above.
Mar 14, 2005 04:22 pm I have this same problem on my "family" PC, I have had several different CD-Rom,'s, DVD's and even a CD burner in there, hell, I even tried an external USB CD Burner and Windows just refuses to load the drivers for it properly. It's been going on for weeks, nea, months. Luckily, I don't NEED a cd in that machine very often, bvut it still pisses me off. I have since written it off to some POS chip on the MoBo, but I dunno...
Mar 15, 2005 06:37 am sorted it.. i just uninstalled the driver.. restarted the computer .. and when i opened it again it was enabled and NERO had found it. and i had the options of wether to copy a dvd or copy a cd!!
woooo ... finally!!! thanks for the help fella's!!
