Where do you first start your recordings?
Do you "map out" the song?
Do you start with a simple click track?
I have these songs in my head and dont know where to start!!!!
HELP!

Mar 04, 2005 01:34 pm yup ya gotta have the song worked out first, i like to do drums after that.
Mar 04, 2005 01:36 pm me too. I have a basic arrangment, sequence basic drums, record guitar and bass, then go back to the drums and add fills and crap, get presley_07 to do the vocals then try to find a lead guitar player if I can't do what I hear in my head...
Arangement subject to change at any given time therein...God bless copy and paste.

Mar 04, 2005 01:39 pm Im not sure about different styles of music...but I usually will have a guitar riff in my head...play a click track at what I think should be the tempo to make sure the parts are all work smoothly at that tempo..Then I'll record the guitar line along with some generic drum loop. I then listen to it again and make changes etc . I record the guitar tracks and then I'll do the drums. I do bass last. ..eh its how I do it and I end up rerecording a whole bunch of times..I'm assuming you are doing stuff in a home studio..If you are going into a studio where you are paying time...You better have the songs written out. I highly recommend getting a 4 track for home for arrangement before paying...good luck

Mar 04, 2005 07:32 pm I like to make the beat (arrangement) first. Then I listen to the beat and try to find an original theme that fits it. I then write the lyrics based on that theme, record it, and then try to see what is missing or needs to be removed.

Mar 05, 2005 07:14 am i gather the sounds i'm using for melody, create a basic drum pattern, make melody to drum then tailor drum pattern to fit melody better if needed.....a decent rhythm section and melody should have ur head noddin a lil bit,so then it's build from there

Mar 05, 2005 10:14 am i've heard that in other places: each section should be able to carry it's own. from there you can tailor it back to fit in a mix, but don't leave a section 'in the lurch' without the rest of the pieces, make it live on it's own.
Actually, suppose this could be said for each individual track, as well as a section (rythym, vocals, etc.)
