Pro & cons of DAW vrs. Computer

Trying to decide between purchasing a DAW or having a computer built to use for recording. I am recording mostly acoustic instruments. Have several dynamic mics as well as a couple of condenser mikes. My mixer has an optical output thus I could connect to a sound card using that port. I need information please.

standalone multitracker = portability, reliability

PC recording = nearly infinite flexibility

I think that both will cost you about the same, but keep in mind that there are TONS of cool free things for PC recording on the web. Lots of VST effects and instruments, multitracking software, wav editors, etc.
