anyone have an opinion on the Samson 7Kit?

also, comparing two setups...

1) Samson 7Kit (possibly an SM57 for snare at a later date)

2) MBQ 8" sub (kick), SM57 (Snare), 2 Samson CO2 condensor mics (overhead)

Which do you think will give me the best sound to start off with?

From what I have seen and heard from Samson, I haven't been impressed. I would go for a Audix set which is a little bit more but I have gotten great results from them. SM57's, can't go wrong with them at all. Personally, I haven't take liken to Samson's products.

i use the samson setup with co2s overhead. it's a pretty crude mix and not a great sound. but with some knowledge of EQ, compression and gates, i've gotten my kit to sound really nice and big. I agree with vdale that the audix setup would be better.

No, the DP2 is expensive but nice might I add.

Go with the Fusion series:

This is the 6 piece set for $299.00. They have a 4 piece set for $199.00 also. I personal own 2 of the Fusion 6 sets because our drummer has a 12 piece drum set. You can buy each mic seperate if you want, but it probably is cheaper to buy two sets to get what you need. The overheads are amazing. At my church, we have a awesome homemade drum cage at the corner of our stage. I only mic it with these two overheads and a kick mic and it sounds like the whole set is miced. Course, it takes time to EQ it and get the position right where the cymbals aren't so louder then the rest of the set. But I am very please with the result I got from these.
