Antares autotune- what the hell

I have several different versions of this product- the latest 4.15. I have been home recording for about 7-8 years and have never come across anything quite as puzzling as antares autotune. What is the most puzzling is that it has been refferred to as the Holy Grail of home recording yet to me it is useless for anything other than a strange warble on every other note i song. I can't figure it out at all. I've read the manual and it does little other than praise itself. Any suggestions?

I do have it, but it came free when I bought Fruity Loops off Ebay. I never really used it too much. I focus mainly on hip hop which doesn't include too much singing, so thats why I don't use it. I'll experiment with it some more and get back to you.

i do know that the people that use it, only use it on single words or phrases, not necessarily the whole track.....you gotta play with the paramaters to get it "tuned" right (bad pun)...

thanks- so if its just used on single words etc how is it easier than using say, waves ultrapitch etc? Any pitch shifter will do as long as your not tone deaf and you can keep the formant of your voice.
