Delta 1010 snap-crackle-pop!

Hello,

my first post here, so first off, "hi!"

Now I know this subject has been covered over and over again, but I'm wondering if there is ANYTHING else I can do to solve this? I have the constant snap-crackle-pop from the 1010 from the minute the PC boots up....no audio apps need to be in use. I've gone down M-Audio's checklist of things to check....I've disabled anything that I don't use to free up resources, raised the buffer setting, moved the PCI card to every available PCI slot in my PC, nothing's worked :(

I'm using Windows XP, and after trying 4 seperate PCI slots, I was only able to get the 1010 on it's own IRQ on the slot it's currently in....all others paired it up with something else. However, on the slot it's in now, it's IRQ assignment is 22, and of course anything past 16 is only a "virtual" IRQ anyways.

Could this be the problem...and if so, how can I possibly get it on a lower IRQ when I've already tried all 4 PCI slots? Could it still be something else I haven't tried??

Any help would of course be greatly appreciated...

Hi, Welcome to HRC

I am not really familiar with the whole virtual IRQ concept, never dealt with it myself...but you can hard-set IRQ's in thew BIOS to around 9 or 10 would be good. Asside from that, what app are you using, what driver type? Is it your only sound card?

does it scp (snap crackle pop) before windows starts up? this would mean that there's a hardware cause, like the harddrive is not configured right and is conflicting with something else and making pauses in the system buss. If it's only after windows starts, then I'd look into drivers. Sometimes video drivers will play havoc on other stuff, try to either upgrade, or downgrade some of your drivers (including the 1010 first, maybe video second). I back-revved one of my sound card drivers with good results once, and there's quite a few delta users that have done so as well.

Also, like dB said, is there another sound card in the PC, does it scp with the other sound card, and if not, can you or have you disabled it.

Some other possibilities: is the PC over-clocked? is the PCI set to too high a speed? is there other electrical apparatus that may be introducing problems? I supported a site once that had problems at night with the server browning every so often. Turns out the neon lights outside would pop on and brown the rest of the building =).

hope this helps, good luck.

If you're getting constant noise from the monitors even with no audio app loaded (i.e. no signal going thru the Delta), then I'd look first for outside interference. Fluoro lights, dimmers, unbalanced cables, proximity of cables to computer and/or screen, bad mains power, etc.

If you can give us a clue as to how your system is setup (your gear profile is empty), it may prompt more ideas.
