M-Audio Audiophile 2496 - Volume probs recording w. CubaseSX

Hi,

I have a simple setup of an Audio buddy pre amp to which a mic is connected. The preamp is linked to an audiophile 2496 soundcard. I am using the lastest drivers for the soundcard.

When recording in Cubase no matter how loud I turn up the gain, there appears to be no change in the volume recording level which is really low. I have no idea how to use he M-Audio system tray control thingy but changing levels in there doesn;t make a difference. In terms of hardware I'm pretty sure it's not the mic or the preamp as they work perfectly well with the previous soundcard and with the gain up high I get a clip signal on the pre-amp suggesting that the problem might be with either the soundcard or the link between the preamp and the soundcard. I have tried on both outputs from the amp, still no joy. The cable I use currently from the preamp to the computer is a 35mm jack converted to 1/4" going to 2 phonos (for the sndcard). However, if it was the cable that was at fault there still should be some sort of change in volume when adjusting the gain on the pre-amp. It's as if the volume is capped by the software. Tried to read the manauls but couldn't find any answers - none that worked anyway.

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

I wish you had a board that you could use to test your preamp and cabling to hear if you are getting good volume at the point of input to the audio interface. We did have one case here where the person had to remove Cubase, load the drivers first and re-install Cubase. I don't think it was the exact same problem. Ensure that the old drivers are totally removed if you havn't already. Beyond that I have no experience with the 2496. Stay tuned, I'm sure some other folks have hands on experience with that card.
