Ok, leave it up to dB to piss on my parade again...I ain't mad at ya dB...I respect your opinions and that's how your able to piss on my parade...If I didn't give a flying rip I'd tell ya otherwise ;)

Anyhow...

I want some open opinons on these monitors.

dB...no I haven't worked them out. For one, you know I hate GC...which is the only feasable place that I think has them for me to work out...I dislike their smug staff so I basically was going off my client who loves em and the 9 MF reviews which makes up for their 5 star overall rating...

Dumb as these reasons are...the passives are 2 bills...and I want passives so I can still utilize my Hafler amp...

**Stupid Question Time**...shall I just put up with the crap staff at GC and have them run them for me...if in fact they got em??

Thanks folks.....deebs!

I would, I bothered the GC staff for two hours while they juggled monitors for me so I could listen to them.

And again (for your reading, the pissingon a parade was from a private conversation), when I think of Alesis monitors, the only thing I think of is their crappy old Moniotr 1's, which were the worst monitors I have ever heard.

Some of them may be great, I dunno...but I personally never buy anything without hearing it...and regarding reviews on the site...any idea who those people are reviewing it? Gotta consider the whole picture, my friend :-)

I know I look like a total *** by the whole "Im going to buy something without hearing it" situation...typically I don't do that. We've had this conversation before of how much I despise that store...so I am running off word of mouth.

I am a stubborn short tempered consumer when it comes to this stuff...As I would be when one of those Best Buy computer guys comes up to me and starts rattling off terms as if he's trying to impress me when it's all basic stuff he's speaking of anyway...

So when I get the look from the GC staff like "Oh, you aren't going to buy anything?" ...It won't take me long to feel like cussing the guy out. It's saving me from being pissed off at only wanting to hear some devices

Ok, I guess it's as good a time as any to spill the beans.

Call me crazy or maybe the Man from LaMoncha (I'm sure I mess that spelling up good) but I just hired on to GC as one of those dispicable sales persons. I sat and talked a long time interviewing the store manager before I decided and he is commited to getting the right piece of gear for the person the first time. So is my area manager in pro audio. I will be holding them to that. We will see how it works out. I have only been on the floor one day and I do see where it is difficult for the sales folks in my departement to determine who is wanting what. Some customers do not want to hear any questions. Others are ok with that. I don't think I will have much problem with that myself. I can ask and not be offended if the customer just wants 'checked out'.

Now please, do not be irratated with me if my product knowledge is not up to par just yet. There is a lot of learning and comparing I have to do to get on top of all the gear they offer. So, sorry, I don't know just yet where the Alesis monitors fall in the line up. But I will do my best to learn and hopefully help soon.

Anyway 'cat's out of the bag'. Hopefully there will be at least one GC that can really serve folks in the near future.

Walt, for me its just my local store...I used to go to the only other store in my state which was near my old place of work. That was ok...

I know GC overall isn't that bad...but even when I get guitar srings, they give the ole "Whattya want" look...I dont know what it is about the vibe in that place that the employess are so pissy. The only person with cheer is the greeter at the door...

In GC's defense...I understand there are alot of dreamers out there who go there for an hour or so and are in no means in the market to buy even a $200 module...but yet they wanna try out the USB MIDI controller on the Digi 002 cuz they've been "thinking abuot getting it"...when if fact they satisfy their desire by playing with the stores toys...I go there with that same line but most times I am actually thinking of purchasing one...
USUALLY the rep lightens up a bit when I tell him what I run, but at times we don't get that far...

So if I rip GC for anything I am usually speaking of my local store...(Roseville, MN) not the enterprise in general...

Personally, Walt, I think thats a job you would be very good at, good luck with it.

I will reflect Jasons view of that GC store, that said, I don't find the Bloomington store nearly that condensending.

Jason, I would personally feel empowered going to the store, spending their time listeneing and knowing full well, the whole time that you plan to buy nothing...then say thanks for your time, and leave.

Oh, and MF is owned by GC, so the money goes to the same place.

I was aware that they were one in the same...

Personally I liked Mars Music in HarMar when it was there...thats where I got most of my gear...

Thanks dB and Jason,

We will see how it works out. My personal take is that I am supporting musicians. If one wants to fact find, that is ok with me. I believe long run that the approach of offering a service rather than a simple retail outlet will bring greater satisfaction and monitary reward. We will see if that approach will work with GC. It will take a little longer for word of mouth to do it's job and I may not be the stellar sales person of the month for awhile. I already know from past experience I can't do the 'hit and run' sales. I get too interested in the systems people are trying to create and want to help with that creation.

Like I say, we will see.

I've got a pair of Alesis Monitor Two's and i can tell you first hand, they suck.....these things are pretty big but they don't handle alotta power, the mid range stands out pretty bad, and the lows dissapear at around 80hz...ick

Well I went to GC I dealt with the store manager who I assumed was NOT going to be a 'richard'...He was pretty cool...

But I wasn't impressed with any of the monitors...
The Mackie HR824's were cool...but, he basically left me with sample cds, the player and the control rack so I could flip between brands...or CD's...

But yeah the Mackies and the V8 series 2 were ok,...

Who knows?

"richard", eh? nice catch :-)

If they have any old JBL 4206's laying around, or in their bloomington store (that's where I got mine) give them a listen...they are hard to find these days though. I like the Mackies myself, I have heard them a couple times. Noize's K Roc's are nice too.

Indeed Jason, if you are choosing between the mackies and the KRK V8's those are 2 bery good choices. I personally liked the V8's for their front porting, and good bottom end presance which negates the need for a sub, and they work well in most small and mid sized rooms.

Truth be told, I honestly went through about 16 pairs of moniters in less then 2 years trying to find the ones that fit this room. They all sounded good in the store, but once in here I just couldnt get my ears around them. I had heard many KRK's over the years, and used them in other studios but never thought I could afford them for here. I got a pair of Rokits first and finally a pair of used K-Roks showed up at the local Music Go Round and the manager called me right away knowing I wanted a pair. I dont see me ever trading these babies off.

And hey Walt, congrats. And I gotta feeling with your ethic you will make what you want out of that store. I know not all GC's are like the Roseville store here. But as a rule I think alot of them are filled with wanna be rock stars who think they know what a customer needs more then the customer himself and that is what turns me off. That and the arrogance alot of them tote around with them. As they think everyone who comes in there knows less then they do about a product.

And good luck to ya on the job there.
