Smooth (Santanas) Vocal effects?

In the Santana song Smooth, Rob Thomas sings the lead vocal. It has a little sound to me of a through a megaphone quality and some other aspects to it I cant describe well (maybe a 2nd vocal slightly delalyed?). If you have heard that song, what are you
thoughts on how to replicate the characteristics of the vocal?

I have a recorded track of a cover with a straight vocal for it, and I would like to apply those same effects to it to come closer to original. I guess the megaphone quality is
partially to EQ so its mostly mids? If you have heard the song you might be kind enough to offer insight. I put a snippit of the vocals from the original if you want to hear it here:

I can apply effects via a set of standard DX plug-ins to the vocal track but if I need to buy a plug-in set or other software Im up for that too.

Any thoughts appreciated.

kill highs and lows, boost mids and add some reverb to it.
