xtc, don't believe everything you see on the news. The way I have heard it from friends I have in the military, (Geoff can probably comment more on it) is that the vast majority of Iraqi's are very happy we liberated them, they are just unsure what to do with the liberation cuz they have never had it. It's just very small pockets of these insurgents (read "terrorists") that have that hatred, but then, they hate everybody, it ain't just us.\

I, for one, thought it was absolutely cool watching them vote yesterday.

If they didn't want liberation, or didn't want us there, they would not have showed up to vote yesterday.

Yeah, that's awesome. A right and priveledge that some liberal friggin putz's like Susan Sarandon feels one shouldn't have to spend the time waiting two hours in line to do these people, yesterday, got to do for the first time in decades, and their ballots had more than one choice on them.

I find it amazing, and yesterday, regardless of anyone else's feeling, made me proud to be an American, and should any citizen of the countries that are helping liberate these down-trodden people that have been ruthlessly ruled and terrorized by a despot for so long.

God bless democracy and freedom to choose your gov't. And may God (or whatever they call him) bless the Iraqi people on their journey to a free nation.

db, the media works both ways doesnt it?!?, it would be interesting to hear from geoff and others to see what they think, im sure theres a small percentage of iraq people that like whats going on, but theres got to be a big percentage of the middle east that doesnt, you cant change a culture can you?!? if this does work out for iraq great, but we will have to be there for a very long time for it to sustain, way beyond bush,to me its a waste of valuable resources. i say we try to fix america.

Well acording to the stats of voters, about 60-70% of the people like whats going on, cuz they came out to vote. So it's not a small percentage at all, it's the majority by any statistic I have seen, which, may or may not be accurate, but it's really all I have to base my opinions on. All you can do is give the people the tools, which is what we are doing, whether or not they use the tools is up to them after the job is done.

I agree we should fix America first, can't argue with that, but at the same time I am very glad Saddam and his terrorist regime is out of power.

As far as the middle east at large, sure, I bet lots of them are pissed...but I bet some are happy too, Saddam was a threatening character all over the middle east.

where did these stats come from? if this is true thats great, but you also have to realize alot of the media is controlled/owned by companies that have alot to gain over this war $$$$$

is there any evidence that links saddam to (9/11)? what happend to osam bin laden, shouldnt that have been the focus since 9/11?!? where are the weapons of mass destruction? what did they recover?!? after all they shoved that theory down our throats. so what about iran? we going there next?

i would like to find some blog/site/forum that had the soldiers view on this whole war, what they have experienced, how they see things are going, what they think it would take for iraq to be a democracy and if they think its worth it, ultimately they know whats really going on over there. for instance when the media is saying the soldiers dont have the proper gear and protecive wear etc. is stuff like this true?

Who gives a crap if Saddam is linked to 9/11? I most certainly don't care. What does that have to do with anything? He was a terroristic despot that threatened and killed his people and his neighbors people, whether or not he is linked to 9/11 means nothing to me personally...and most people I have talked to about it.

Also, if the media is owned by people with so much to gain by the way, why have the spent the last 1 year+ working like hell to make us look bad, now that there was elections they are now on a patriotic "look what we helped these people do" rampage? If they had a lot to gain they would have been rallying from the beginning.

The lowest percentage I think I heard from any media source is about 57% I think...

I would like to find a blog you mention as well, but I dunno, I have talked to quite a few soldiers coming back from there, and they have all had a very different story than the liberal-media outlets have been spewing for the last year+.

That said, I am not interested in starting a political argument here, so I am just going to back out of this discussion before it gets to a point it shouldn't. Bottom line, I think the vote is awesome, if they don't embrace their freedom, thats unfortunate, I hope we can stabalize the country and get out of there, letting them take care of themselves shortly.

well i bet if you or the people you talked to lost a loved one on 9/11, you would get a different opinion as part of the justification for going to iraq was WMD's and 9/11.

media yes its overall distorted left, i wont question that.

saddam being captured yes that is a good thing, he was murderous psychotic, who has killed more of his own people, than we have in both wars.

arent we all in this together? i think this is one of the problems in the USA you got 2 parties spending way too much time going at each other, and not enough time working with each other.

maybe the governments goal is to try to keep us at each other, so while thats going on they can pass another pay raise for themselves :)

I would say you are being more than presumptous in saying that I, or anyone I know, didn't. How presumptous indeed. This is why I am backing out, because now I am angry at your assumptions.

various Yahoo blogs

Being that I know people who lost family members on 911 I can say... No, I don't get that opinion.

don't get what opinion?

I should qualify my statements as saying it is unfortunate that the reasons for going into Iraq proved false. It takes away a lot of credibility from most of the civilized world's intelligence quality since most agreed he had them, just disagreed on whether or not to invade. But I will also say it does not bother me that we went in and removed Saddam from power, regardless if the intelligence was wrong or not, because he surely deserved what he got and a lot more...

As far as Osama goes, yeah, I would like to see him caught and beheaded with a rusty blade, I dunno what to make of him taking a back seat in importance...seems a tad unfair.
