two hard drives

my computer has two hard drives, one that came stock, and one that's been with me for 4 years now that i use for audio only...the audio drive is only 40 gigs and it does run at 7200rpm but it's kinda startin' to show it's age. it's pretty loud and has run windows 98 and 2000, and has been reformated about 10 times....i'm gonna be mixin' down about 20 tracks soon and i'm toying with the idea of puttin' say the drum tracks on my computers C drive and the rest on my normal audio drive (the old one). i figure i'll split the workload to go easy on my audio drive. is this a bad idea? or am i worryin' for nothin'?

thanks

i'd hit tigerdirect and spring for a new 120, 160, or 200 g drive for under 100$us. Then use the 40g for a storage drive, like archiving stuff.

If the drive is starting to make noise, then I wouldn't trust it to much. I definately wouldn't keep my only copy of music data on it (the irreplaceble stuff).

I usually kept my music data in at least two different spots, usually on 2 different computers.
