If anyone knows of any work available...

In the Calgary area, or even work that can be done from afar, I'm fully qualified in several fields, and in serious need of a new job.

My current employer has crossed the last line I'm going to let them, and still do not pay me enough to survive, regardless of how many times they've promissed me better. My notice goes in Monday, I will be desperate come Friday.

Let me know, thx.

Have you considered (if it's available even) to work as support or server admin at any of the hundreds of hosting companies online? I know you know WIndows, not sure about Unix, but these jobs, as you know, can often be done remotely..

just a thought, cuz I hear about those jobs every now and then...

Being as I run my own hosting company, 'conflict of interest' has always come up, or they've offered less than reasonable reimbursement.

If you hear of one, let me know where, I'll submit an application, it can't hurt to try.

BTW, I know more about *nix than I do Winblows. I never use Winblows where I can avoid it!

OK, I'll keep it in mind. Yeah, they do not pay well, which is why I never did it myself, but I know a few peeps that run hosting companies and they are looking every now and then...or know somebody who is, or something...

I do alot of independent consulting/contracting on the side, and don't mind expanding, but I really need a 9-5 for insurance as well, as you know, or are probably finding out, contracting means 'unstable' income...

I dunno, I haven't seen any instability yet, I know it's out there waiting to snare me, but the last 6 months have been the most profitable six months I have had yet...no real signs of slowing down either.

Congrats on that, and hope for you it doesn't slow down. I had a couple years like that, it was great while it lasted.

Thanks, right now it seems it's a way better economy (at least where I am) for consultants over full time employees, at least in web dev and SEO like I do, it's not so good people are hiring people on, but good enough where they will bring people in short term for overdue projects...

Time will tell...but right now I'm diggin it...the freedom of self-employment is kinda nice too.

Hey dB, thanks to the positive vibes I'd been getting, within hours of posting, and minutes of writing my letter of resignation, I got a job offer from someone who hunted me down (not the other way around). Seems one of my clients was talking to the owner of the company about my coding skills..

Cushy salary, full benefits, 2 weeks vacation a year, 2 days 'no way I'm coming in I don't feel like it, and not giving notice' time, perks up the yin yang, ritzy modern office, all the charms.

I start Monday after next.

Big :)

Another bonus, the work I'll be doing directly coincides with the work I've already been doing on the engine that makes NWR tick. I'll be able to work on NWR, while making money developing the engine for others, as I'd planned all along, only now, I don't gotta sell it, or invest my time without pay!

hehehe, well there is one butt-kickin bonus. I've done that on occassion, it's nice to be able to "kill two bird with one stone" and get a good salary while doing it.
