hey yall, im having trouble hooking up my mixer to the pc.. i followed the basic instructions on the tips sections.. I put in 1/4 cables on the main outs part of my eurorack ub802 and connected it in rca input cables in my audiophile 2496..and the output rca cables connected to the soundcard go to my stereo receiver... i also installed the drivers for the card so i dnt know if i have to adjust stuff on the software or if im just hooking it up incorrectly because my PC wont record anything on my cool edit pro.. thanx guys..

Are you getting any sound at all, or is it just not recording the sound you're hearing ?

If it's the first, try changing the in/out in the M-Audio's routing menu...

If it's the latter, then arm the track for recording first .

Hope this helps, mamar .

Improperly selected output drivers, maybe ? If it has to do with the recording program, I am at a loss... never used CEP... and I'm at work and can't see how I set my 24/96 up, right now . I will have to get back to you this evening, unless someone else can lend a hand before then . I wouldn't worry, though... this seems like a small thing that got overlooked... something silly .

sometimes it helps to really think about your signal path, follow it from source to speaker, and makesure all your ins and outs are right. start with the mic, then to the channel on the mixer, then to an out on the mixer (and test by hookin' other gear up like, plug your monitors directly into the mixer to check for signal. if all is good, continue to the computer, start by checkin' your soundcards mixer and a basic sound recorder and see if ya got anything, next move to Cool Edit ect. ect. follow the path and it'll lead you to the weak spot.

peace

Yes, meditate on the signal path... BE the signal ! heh This is about the only way to be sure of what you're doing . When I checked my settings last night, I didn't find anything to explain your delema . It's got to be something like the driver-signing, or something in CEP . Take WYDs advice, and sit down with all applicable books in-lap, and go through the signal path, one link at a time .

Input Device-> Mixer -> Soundcard In -> Recording Program -> Soundcard Out -> Monitoring

Soorry not much more help... good luck, man !

Here's my guess: the card isn't selected as the recording or playback device in Windows.

Go to Settings->Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the tab labeled "audio". In the drop-down boxes for both Playback and Recording, select your Audiophile card.

If you're monitoring via a separate card, then select it in the Playback box.

Then, go into Cool Edit under Device Setup... and make sure that your audiophile is selected as both the recording and playback device. make sure it's first in the list.

Then, track by track in your project, make sure that all of them are routed to play back on the proper sound card. If you selected your monitoring card as the first device in Device Setup, then you shouldn't have to worry about going track by track, but you never know.

Now, in your M-audio control panel, decide what you want your Audiophile's outputs to play (assuming that you're monitoring thru the Audiophile):

- "Monitor mixer" outputs everything coming in or going out of the card. This is good if you selected your Audiophile as your output device in Windows and Cool Edit.
- "H/W in 1/2" will directly monitor only what you are putting in to the card in inputs 1 and 2...so you'll only hear whatever you're recording at the time.
- "Wav out" will output every sound that Windows makes...your input signal if you're monitoring it, your output signal if you told Windows to use your card as the playback device, as well as all of the dings, blings and whistles that Windows makes. This is good if you selected a different sound card as your playback device.

I go a different route, I use channel inserts to take signal out of each channel and input it into the PC. I use the signal still in the mixer to monitor, and mix this with the output of the sound card going into some other channels on the mixer.

i love that trick, i've used the inserts for things like that too, remember not to put the cable all the way down in the jack.
