I'm totally new to this and have several basic questions/issues.
I received a Dell Insprion 8600 for Christmas and want to record at home - just basic guitar tracks for now.
Here's the equipment I am going to use: Peavey Wolfgang - Digitech Guitar Effects Processor - Marshall Ministack - Griffin iMic (USB) - Computer (no external speakers for computer). There's alot of free recording software I'm going to play with before making up my mind on which to use.
Is that the best order to place the equipment in? I'm worried about sound quality, latency, etc.
Thanks - any help/suggestions/discussion is very much appreciated.

I'm not sure what to think of those little iMics. You'll have to let us now how that thing works out for you. It kinda scares me, personally...

Are you just recording direct from your Marshall into the iMic? If so, great. If not, then you're going to need a microphone of some sort.

If you are recording direct, then I'd just run from the Digitech straight into the iMic and bypass the Marshall altogether. Or, bypass the Digitech and go straight from the Marshall into the iMic. You don't need both if you're recording direct. Unless you're attached to the sound of recording direct thru both of those, all it really does is add more opportunity for noise.

I always try to convince people to mic their amps instead of recording direct, but do what you like.

Also, if you don't have any speakers, what do you plan on using to monitor your signal, and/or listen to your final results on?

I will be recording direct from the Digitech to the iMic. I bought the iMic simply because it is a cheaper alternative than M-Audio, Tascam, etc. (not able to go through the 8600's soundcard and the cheesy mono mic input isn't a consideration).
Anyway, I'll play through the Marshall at the same time as I record through the Digitech - I'll use headphones for playback. I don't want to use headphones as I play because they'll be cheap plus they always get in the way.
I'll let everyone know what I think of the iMic once I have grown comfortable enough with it to give it a fair evaluation.
