Whats the best Music Recording/production software?

Hi all, i'm looking for a program that can record audio, sequence drums, and also run native instruments at the same time. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what is the best of the best. Money is probably not a big object here.

I heard good things about Cubase SX, Logic, and Pro-Tools: i dunno if you can run instruments off pt though.

Is Reason any good? what is reason mainly used for? is it just like acid or fruity loops?

stupe? Is that you, has the prodigal son returned?

Good to hear from you. Personally stupe, I go for Cakewalk Sonar 4. It's so easy to use and does everything you need. I dunno if PT handles instruments, I thought they added VST support, but I am not sure. Mogic is now Mac-only and Cubase, well, that'd do the job too, but I like Sonar myself.

Sonar 4 has a slew of new features from Sonar 3, but, as with any product, it's not worth upgrading unless any of those features will actually help you.

The stage stupe is at, it would be a great app for him, the stage you are at, I would suggest you first get up and running with what you have and get to know the gear and the process a bit better before spending money on a new app. Since you are a relative newbie to home recording I don't think the new features will help you at all...yet...

Cubase SX2 is good. I'd imagine SX3 kicks even more butt, AND, it looks nice!!

But, it all depends on what ye want to do. I guess, they all do the same thing so if the features are there ( And they are ALL similar of not very much the same) its just down to what you like best...

Cubase SX for me...

Cheers

Coco.

i've been using cakewalk since Pro Audio 8! (1999) and have decided to stick with it all the way, they've really focused on streamlining workflow with Sonar 4 (it will be mine, oh yes). If you're a PC user then i'd go for Sonar cuz frankly they don't do Macs, which allows them to focus more on the pc side of things. Nothing is wrong with macs, i just don't like the logic....i wouldn't be surprized if they've got Nuendo in their sights. ok i'm drifting off topic, yeah i absolutely love Cakewalk, it's very intuative, and easy to work with (hence the name) and can handle just about anything you throw at it.

heh jk. yeah its been a while but its still good to hear from you. Since then, I have graduated from college and i'm working as a web programmer for San Diego County office (*slight lol). I took a break from home recording but I've been getting back into it recently.

I think i might try Sonar a little bit since i'm seeing some good reviews about it in this thread. I'm still using Fruity loops and Cool Edit pro (how embarrassing) and i'm looking to upgrade.

Heres some stuff I recorded recently. I'm trying to start a band but right now its only me.

Hey stupe, good to see you around again. Been awhile for sure. Yep, I will second the Sonar 4 thing. As most know I have been using Cakewalk products since their very first sequancer so it is my app of choice. They have really jumped up to bat with this release and I am very impressed.

I will give your tunes a listen a bit later.

Again, gald to see ya around again.

Just had a quiet listen at low volume. I like the power of the bass in demo2, and the synths just kinda glide in and out with a cool melody line.

Are you using live drums, they sound pretty good? The cymbals get a little fizzy now and then, but that might just be the mp3.

Liked the demo1 as well.
