The good news here, is that it is an anti spyware product that they bought and rebranded. It is actualy Giant spyware. Here's a link to their site. It is a pretty damn good product. Rumor has it that Micro$ is going to do the right thing and give the software away. Since it was their poor design that allows spyware in the first place, it would be the right thing in my opinion.

You gonna give it a go dB? I am happy with what I have, but if its better and still free, well then maybe it might be worth trying.

I have been using webroot myself as of late. Just loaded the Micro$ on my system and it imediatly found a few things that Webroot did not. I like the interface. Classic "KISS" and not very intrusive. I will use it for awhile and see if my opinion changes.
On another thought, Since Micr$ knows it's flaws, it may actually be better than other products. That is hoping they update the definitions promptly.

Figured I'll pull this conversation back up...

Finally decided to give Microsoft AntiVirus Beta a try. One of my clients had it on his computer today, sort of said to myself "well, better at least look at it for other's sake". I have to say that I like it. Looks very smooth like Microsoft can do sometimes. Didn't have any good spyware on my personal PC here at home but I would love to see what it picks up with a good infested computer and compare with what Adaware or Spybot gets after running it.

One interesting thing it picked up on my PC was a Horoscope spyware. It was located under Bobtail's folder, which was the Front and Center some of us here was testing before the hurricane hurt their business. I'm just wondering if it was hidden in there or it mistaked it for spyware. Hmmm...

Anyway, so far I like the Antispyware from Microsoft. Since they know their Operation System, hopefully they'ss give us something good to cure our headache of their spyware hole IE.

Well... I just used it about 2 weeks ago. granted, my laptop had been hit by a few adware/spyware apps that were slowing everything down during a two week gap in my antivirus protection. After all, I only visit very innocent music and porn sites.

I tried MS Antispyware and it cleaned out quite a few apps. Then I installed Norton Antivirus 2005 and with it's new features and goodness it found 6 that MS didn't. After everything was gone my machine was 1% better so I reformatted it.

So... I have Norton back on with a fresh OS so we'll see how long it lasts. I'll have the MS software, since it's free, for backup.

I've been using it since the beta was out and it seems to work pretty well to me. First time I used it, it found a few more than Spybot, or Adaware did. Since installing it there have been no new items found.

Ditto for me OD. However, AS will probably always be the case, one should use more than one spyware program. As good as it seems to be, I found several other items using Spybot. Granted they were not programs but rather tracking cookies.

Yesterday, I have a client that had this aggravation spyware called "Desktop Search". It put a stupid box right above your clock on your task bar. When you go over it with your mouse, it would pop up with a search bar. Also, it would literally shoot an advertisement to float to the top of the screen depending on what subject of the website you were visiting. Neither spybot nor adaware found it. Wasn't listed in add/remove programs and it said you didn't have rights to delete the folder it was located in. Very nasty indeed. I put Microsoft's AntiSpyware on it, found it and simply deleted the basterd. Plus, the client loves it because when spyware is trying to be installed, gives you a notivication to block it or not, just like a firewall but for spyware. I give this two thumbs up for me and I just hope Microsoft will keep it updated very well.
