Jan 12, 2005 04:34 pm I work for a large ISP by day and tell people how to get rid of that stuff all the time. ;)
1. run your anti-virus if you have one on the computer. If it does not remove it, proceed to step 2.
2. go onto download.com, cnet.com and search for spyware removal tools. I would suggest to download a minimum of 5 removal programs. Reason being is caus they are only about as good as the list of stuff they scan for. The first program that you run might remove spyware A, B, and C, but you could still have D running on your system...etc.. which will bring the others back in again when you restart your computer.
I even have a friend that runs 20 of those programs on his computer, but he is really into security.
3. do a search on google for removal for the particular bug you are trying to remove. Most of the time you can find explicit removal instructions.
4. If all else fails and your still unable to remove the bug, you might want to get a friend, computer consultant, local shop...etc.. involved and have them give it a shot.
5. Worst case scenerio, you can always pull out your format discs and wipe out the drive back to day one, but you will lose a lot of information. I would suggest keeping an external hard drive with daily, weekly, monthly backups...etc. just incase you ever have to format. You can always revert to your clean settings with a backup if all else fails after you format and delete the troubled partitions. :)
Goodluck!

Jan 12, 2005 06:49 pm Try Lavasoft Adaware (SE 1.05 is the latest version). Make sure you update the defination files, like an antivirus software. Do the same with Spybot too with the definations.
All these suggestions here will do.
Jan 12, 2005 11:33 pm OK. I thought I had eliminated all my spyware problems, but I go to work offshore and my brother downloads a ton of crap on my computer and I come home and BAMMMM!, I got like 20 bugs running free on my PC. If you steer clear of sex sites and other junk websites, you can pretty much keep your PC clean by running Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard (available at MajorGeeks.com for free). Spywareguard runs all the time and looks for ActiveX programs that attempt to change your internet settings. Its a supremely handy tool. Spyware Blaster is like an innoculation (similar to Spybot S&D's innoculation) that keeps certain spyware off your PC. Update ALL your antivirus definitions as well as your spyware programs. Also, if you havent done it yet, get your Microshaft Windows updated.

have a look at
securityresponse.symantec...ialer.tibs.html

Jan 13, 2005 11:33 am I'd also get registry first aid. This will clean your registry for you. I had the same problem and since I started running these three programs, I have never had a problem since.
1. Spybot S/D
2. Lavasoft Adware
2. Registery First Aid
Keep em updated and you'll be just fine!!!!
P.S. There all free as well.WooHoo

yep, honestly its AIM, Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, Kazaa, Limewire, Morpheus, WinMX, Gnuella, Weedshare, Weatherbug...etc.. the "free programs" sneak what we call "lawyerese" into their license agreements that say 'by downloading our program, you get this free stuff from our sponsers'.... usually the free stuff being SPYWARE and ADDWARE.... Just be pretty precautious of what you are downloading and you will be alright most of the time. I would go with the suggestion to not open anything in your e-mail that you don't know who its from also, and avoid the shady websites like porn, hacking websites, smiley downloads, music downloading..etc..
Jan 15, 2005 01:15 pm yea, i tried the spysweeper and it got it off. It was a real pain in the but, cuz i tried downloading a bunch of spyware and adware programs but they go through the scan and your like " alright it found it" but then it asks you to buy it or else it wont take it off for you. Its a pain. The demo of spysweeper took it off and i havemnt had any problems, yet...
