i have been working with this fostex vf-16 for about 6 months or so but i am finding editeding to be well frankly a pain in the royal arrs ..and seein that i dislike computers very very much i am consider upgrading to a more professional hard disk workstation i am looking at the tascam 2488 ,the roland 2480 ,but i think i may have my eye fix on the tascam sx-1le considering that i really want 16 track at once recording for acoustic drums and entire emsemble's what you all think...?

just an opinion, but if you're gonna drop $2K+ on one of those all in one workstations, i'd check into the computer side of stuff, with the exception of portabillity, it's just as hard, if not harder to edit audio on those things...i've got a Roland 1680 that i've had since '99 and it's been good to me, but man the features and ease-of-use on a computer based DAW far exceeds it in performance (althought not necessirally reliability) i havn't had one single problem from the Roland ever....lets see the computer people say that!! lol but i've never truely "mixed" on my roland either, i've always dumped the tracks on to my PC for mixing.....mind if i ask why you don't want to go the computer route? you're posting here, so you can't be too bad with computers ay?

peace

Another option to consider is a laptop. Most will run all the current software and the audio interfaces are getting to be pretty dang reliable these days.

Can't help but chime in here...

You can't beat the Fostex VF-16 for ease of use and portability, particularly when tracking...not to mention 16 simultaneous tracks. Don't forget that you can export your tracks as .wav files and then edit them on your PC. You will quickly lose your distaste for PC based editing, just as I did.

well i guess i really just don't feel comfortable at a p.c. for some reason it's just so unatural feeling and allso i really like the tascam sx-1le it seems like it has the potential to evolve meet more demands as they arise at about the same price of a higher end p.c. (also not a big fan of bill gates consumer eating freight train)but this is something i am gonna ponder for a bit but equal to what my friend just payed for a les paul and a 5150 i could have this www.tascam.com/Products/SX-1LE.html and to me that seems more productive of a toy .
